This link has been taken down from the NASA site by someone who probably told themselves as a kid that they would have stood up to the Nazis in the 1930s: https://www.nasa.gov/universe/nasa-intern-found-hope-in-the-moon-2 Here's the story that Musk and Trump and their goons are so afraid to let you read https://scitechdaily.com/nasa-intern-found-hope-in-the-moon/

@gvwilson i'm trying not to boost too much of this material, because it is upsetting to those more directly affected, and hard to find actions

it is a terrifying prospect, the erasure of research that does not fit a very narrow, very male norm. both the impact on individuals' work and the broader implications of why it's done; STEM as a techne of coercion and control, unchallenged by psychologies that lack those overblown drives; the loss of care, then human essence

time to reflect, not boost

@ultrazool @gvwilson The answer to erasure isn't more erasure.

@femme_mal @ultrazool @gvwilson on that note, you can contact Rose at her personal web site https://www.rosedf.space/

Also, searching "rose ferreira nasa" still turns up lots of copies of the referenced article, published on many other science/news sites. So even the removal from nasa.gov hasn't erased her story.

@hyc Thanks, but I hope you realize my point was that policing disclosure of a fascist administration's efforts to erase persons is not a solution to fascism's aims.

@gvwilson - Heart broken. Have a good weekend.
@gvwilson you can find nearly all missing .gov websites archived by replacing .gov with .govwayback.com
For example this website still lives here

@lpryszcz @gvwilson Thank you for sharing this. I couldn't remember the link.
@jessesealand @gvwilson it took me a moment as well ๐Ÿ˜…
@lpryszcz @gvwilson This preservation is so important. Heartbreakingly, as the content recedes into the distance of time, we'll never know what would have been created and shared as time marched on. There are bigger, more extistential endeavors than this also under attack (like health, climate change prevention, and human rights) but we shouldn't ignore these narratives.
@lpryszcz @gvwilson Would you mind if I shared this on Facebook and Bluesky?
@timgatewood @gvwilson not at all, please share

@lpryszcz @gvwilson
Tried this to see if it would recover the recently deleted CFPB (Consumer Financial Protection Bureau) website. Works great!!

https://www.consumerfinance.gov/ --> consumerfinance.govwayback.com

I guess the DEI statement on their website was just too much for MAGA to swallow. Though one has to wonder how many MAGAts benefitted from the practice and why they're not speaking up in its defense.

Consumer Financial Protection Bureau

The CFPB's vision is a consumer finance marketplace that works for American consumers, responsible providers, and the economy as a whole.

Consumer Financial Protection Bureau
@lpryszcz @gvwilson This might be very important in the long run

@lpryszcz
Oooooh, I knew they've been trying to archive everything, but I didn't know about this super simple URL replacement they set up. That's awesome!

@gvwilson

@lpryszcz @gvwilson I looked for her highlight article but did not find it in the link you have provided.
@sergiodomeyko @gvwilson this didn't work for you?
Still works for me. You need to scroll to the bottom of the page since the pages isn't rendered properly if you enabled privacy settings in your browser

Fascists always try to build false narratives.

For women, a fascist's favorite narrative for women is: "Kinder, Kuche, Kirke" (Kids, Kitchen, Church)

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kinder,_K%C3%BCche,_Kirche

In an anti-democracy movement funded by billionaire religious fundamentalists like Tim Dunn, Farris & Dan Wilks, & misogynistic tech weirdos like Musk & Thiel, erasing women from history comes just before erasing them from employment & erasing their social & economic mobility.

@Npars01 @gvwilson

It would seem that some of the fascist billionaires are as weird as they are rich.

I wonder which came first?

@stargazersmith @gvwilson

That sense that says "I've had enough. I'm satisfied. I don't want anymore" certainly seems to be missing in billionaires.

An addiction to money & power that thwarts satiety.

It's usually associated with childhood trauma, parental neglect, and the kind of bigotry displayed by Gilded Age robber barons.

I studied some humanities, and as you point out, a child deprived of some important aspect of care when young (security, love, self esteem) can grow to become a person of compulsive excess.
@Npars01 @stargazersmith @gvwilson
Yeah, I was gonna say the counter-example to most of the usual suspects is Richard Branson. Would be interesting to see differences in his childhood vs. the others.
@gvwilson Weirdly, they only took the english version down. This is still there:

#RoseFerreira #NASA #DominicanRepublic #RepublicaDominicana

Hereโ€™s another article about Rose Ferreira, the young scientist that NASA decided to unlink from its website. (Stupid, bootlicking NASA cowards! <โ€” editorial comment.)

An admirable life story โ€” born in the Dominican Republic, immigrant in the US, faced poverty and homelessness. Someone goal-oriented and able to overcome obstacles.

@donray @gvwilson

In a true merit-based system, Rose Ferreira would thrive and there would be a lot more of them.

Don't believe the lies. #ResistRacism

@donray @gvwilson re: bootlickers - NASA admins are bureaucrats & politicians; even if they were scientists before, that was a long time ago. They prob know the game well enough to know that if they don't play along, they'll be replaced by someone who will.

But they probably aren't playing a long game. I wouldn't be surprised if Musk winds up taking over or dismantling NASA soon.

@hyc @gvwilson

Valid comments. Cooperation is understandable, but itโ€™s part of the problem.

Hopefully Musk will self destruct like one of his rockets before NASA gets dismantled.

@gvwilson Thank you for this example of how women and minorities get erased from history.

@tania @gvwilson maybe whoever was instructed to remove it was doing exactly what they were told to do and nothing more.
@ryanroberts @gvwilson let's hope it's not an attitude of "order is order". Hopefully there's a learning curve here.

@gvwilson โ€œ404 The cosmic object you were looking for has disappeared beyond the event horizon.โ€

Event horizon. You know, the boundary of a black hole, the insatiable object that attempts to gobble up everything and destroy it with its crushing weight. The place where even light goes to die.

Subtle, #Nasa, subtle.

@gvwilson Keyword search, delete all pages. That's the level of effort and thought that went into it.

I can't imagine what else we're losing and the rate that it's being destroyed. People, datasets, history. You can't justify removing biographies of employees as intentional and you can't save face by admitting it wasn't intentional.

I know there is an effort to archive government sites to save these very things so we don't lose them forever. I hope your page was archived before this happened

@gvwilson I am just heartbroken every time I read a story like this about the accomplishments of women and non-white men being hidden. But we won't let them be erased.

@gvwilson

So, terribly sad, the way some people are frightened about anything that threatens their privilege, and how others bow to their nonsensical commands.

It must be remembered that it is these people that live in a prison that is more life sucking, then anything they can imprison you in. It is their loss.
