Morning Mastodonians!

It was another light turnout at hockey this morning—only 14 skaters. At least it was enough for 5v5, but with only 2 subs, the skating was a bit lackadaisical. I played okay, even if I could not stop 4(!) breakaways. We ended up winning 8-6. I am still getting used to how the puck bounces off my new chest protector. It is very solid, which means good protection but some big bounces.

#Today should include some more shoveling. There's only about an inch of granular wet stuff, but we're expecting some more on Sunday, so I need to get it cleaned up now. I actually hit a couple of patches of ice driving into hockey this morning, despite the 35⁰ F / 1.67⁰ C temperature, which was exciting. And some #walkies. Not sure about this evening. Maybe get back to #Bardsung and play the first adventure. Maybe a movie.
No matter how hard I try, the chaos still seeps in. I read Amanda Marcotte's twice-weekly newsletter on Salon.com and Heather Cox Richardson's daily Letter, but I try to avoid everything else. I have the t-word blocked on Mastodon, and I should add the m-word. It is astonishing what they are getting away with. And yet 45% or more Americans approve of what is going on, which is desperately heartbreaking. They probably think it is all hyperbole.
And yesterday was perhaps my worst day in the #SaltMine. I just wanted to release my changes but it never happened. I wrestled with git, where nothing is ever easy. I fought with submodules, a special sort of git hell. I fought our database versioning system, and with our CI tools, and with my boss' suggestions. And just when I thought the merge finally went through, I found out someone else snuck in a change while I thrashed, meaning I got to start over this morning.

Be safe. Wash your hands. Watch your distance. Wear your N95 mask. Vaccinate! Boost! The flu is also running rampant in these parts.

The worst-tempered people I've ever met in my life were people who knew they were wrong.

@jdarnold Dagnabbit!! Hate days like that.
@Natallini Thanks Nat! Today was ever so slightly better. At least I got the code merged, after much gnash of teeth and pulling of hair
