It's not as efficient as some storage options out there with #zfs , but I have been impressed with #moosefs . It's surprising pretty resilient! I don't know if it's performant ( not one of my needs) but has unlocked a shit ton of space in some hard drives I otherwise would be using a tiny bit of. The only thing I'm not a fan of is.. It's not really a fan of thing disappearing and reappearing, like a reboot of a host or something. I know I fucked up when all my hosts start spinning up fans as shit start replicating.

@train I think the only thing that I dislike about MooseFS is the metadata server being a single point of failure. At least that was the case back when I was administrating a MooseFS cluster around 2009-2010. Dunno if things have changed since then.
@atoponce It's the same! I have had the moosefs server go offline and back up and offline again and of course things freak out and stop working from a client, but when I bring it back it seems to pick up where it left off. So production wise yea it's a bit of a pain in the ass if that thing goes away. In the homelab.. It feels pretty resilient on how it can go back and forth with no problem.. yet!
