I'm frustrated that it seems like the place to go for #protest actions is #Instagram. I'm not sure for how much longer that will be the case, given the #MetaPlatform's capitulation to #fascists, but it seems like most groups that are organizing right now have nothing on their websites and everything on the mainstream #SocialMedia platforms. Does anyone have any advice for how to find out about protests and local organizing on #Mastodon and the #Fediverse? I have no desire to go back on any corporate-owned social media platform, and I suspect that protest info won't be permitted there for much longer, but I also want to stay in the loop.

Same boat!

Groups that say "go to our Facebook page to learn more about resistance" seem absolutely insane to me.

@eestileib, absolutely! Or groups that are still posting on Twitter/Xitter/X/whatever we're calling it now. Like, the fact that they're still on there is part of the problem!

@TheRatCantRead

The same is true for my area; there's almost no info that isn't in the corporate corral. But there's a local chapter of Food Not Bombs (mutual aid) that has a weekly publicly posted event. I stopped by that, and talked to some folks, and am starting to get involved that way.

They do most of their organizing on Discord. Again, not ideal. Part of the reason I want to get involved with local groups is to get them out of the corral and having a fediverse and/or other web presence.

@Fishercat , yes, I agree that Discord also isn't ideal for a lot of reasons, though I think what you're saying about connecting with local groups makes a lot of sense. And I wish you luck in helping them expand their outreach to platforms like those on the fediverse!
if we want more of our people to be using fediverse, we'd need to seriously overhaul the UX of fediverse. that's the only way to get more people to use it.
