Been thinking about Ursula K. Le Guin's "The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas" lately.
My therapist brought it up to me a few weeks back in the context of how trans people will be treated in the Trump era, and how most of society will see us as an acceptable sacrifice.
And when I hear about hospitals caving to Trump's anti-trans EO about transition care for under-19s, choosing to refuse care to these teens because they fear having their funding affected. Most of society really will throw a small group to the wolves in exchange for relative normalcy.
The story is only 5 pages long, so check it out if you've never read it. shsdavisapes.pbworks.com/f/Omelas.pdf

@parkermolloy.com Also, there’s a #StarTrek #StrangeNewWorlds episode that borrows heavily (I mean, like 90% of its plot) from #TheOnesWhoWalkAwayFromOmelas.

Season 1, episode 6: #LiftUsWhereSufferingCannotReach

I highly recommend reading the short story and watching the episode. They’re both powerful.

@neurologo @parkermolloy.com I was surprised it took them that long to make a Trek episode based on that story. It's a match made in heaven.

I made a list of how it would end with the other captains. Same way for Picard, Janeway and maybe Archer.

Tells you where to stick the Prime Directive, and fights their way out of there with the kid, Kirk, Sisko and Burnham.
(Not that Sisko is a hothead. But it's a CHILD!)
