Just thinking out loud.

I would like to see more handmade clothes in my stream. Not just what was finished the last few days, but things that get actually worn.

How about a hashtag to show things, made maybe long ago, maybe made by someone else, maybe inherited, gifted or bought. Just handmade by a crafter. And loved and used. Knit, crochet, sewn - or any other technique

Anyone else interested in something like this? Ideas for a good tag?

#fiberarts @fiberarts #slowfashion #handmadeclothes

Wow, I hadn't expected that much feedback and interest.

Thanks for making me aware of MeMadeMay - I'd completely forgotten about that (but May is long ago ๐Ÿ˜‰ )

Quite a few good suggestions about the tags- but I think I like #HandmadeWardrobe best, because it includes things that were gifted or bought from an artisan as well. I would like to promote all kinds of handmade textiles and show how it fits into everyones daily life.

@FanCityKnits Oh yes, that is a good point -- it is nice to show off things which were made by someone else too.
@FanCityKnits you'll find #MeMadeMay good for this for a few weeks of the year. I guess most of us are proud of the thing just as it's finished, and then it becomes part of the wardrobe so it's just clothes and we don't think to toot about it...

@FanCityKnits Yes I love to see older projects too! I've been veeeeeeery slowly adding mine to a dedicated Pixelfed for the last few months, but like...veeeeeeery slowly lol.

Struggling to think of a clothing-specific tag, I'm terrible at naming things. Will have a think!

What are the advantages of Pixelfed over Mastodon?

@kerravonsen @FanCityKnits Well since they're both part of Fedi, they're just different interfaces for the same pool of content.

With Pixelfed you only see media posts, which is either an advantage or a disadvantage depending what you're after.

I don't use it for browsing since I prefer to see text posts too, so if I find someone interesting there I just follow them on here instead. But I like having the account because it's nice to have a place that's JUST pics of my finished projects, it's pretty much just a record for myself.

@thegiddystitcher
I'm not sure exactly what I want to DO in regard to my finished-object craft photos. As it is, I store them on my computer in folders by type, and that's my "record for me". Sharing with others is semi-random; if I happen to have finished something on a Wednesday, it will likely get photographed and posted to #WIPWednesday

My art is another matter; I have a mastodon.art account to post it to (but I haven't been posting anything recently, for Reasons).
I think some people use Pixelfed because they want it to show their portfolio (because you can group posts by Collections?) but I'm trying to use https://fluid-visions.com for that. (Not that it gets any traffic. Eh, it's a hobby. I'm retired.)

@FanCityKnits @fiberarts Oh! That would be cool. No idea what you would tag it though. Lol.

Maybe some fashion folks have an idea?

@FanCityKnits That sounds like fun!
I'll start... I'm rather proud of this crochet shawl, it has a lovely drape!
#crochet #fibrearts #MeMade
It's beautiful! And such a perfect green ๐Ÿ’š
@Maypop.shop The yarn was bought in Kirkwall, so it's a souvenir as well...
@FanCityKnits @fiberarts That sounds fab. I really want to make a better stab at Me-Made May this year - I'm a slow sewist, and don't like getting rid of wearable clothes, so the process of replacing bought with me-made is ongoing, but this year I think I'll have enough to share things.

@sinituulia posts about the clothes she makes and used #handsewing in this recent post:

Attached: 4 images Sunlight photos of the night dress sewing I did yesterday. Took the top of sleeve, arm's eyes and yoke section off my basic blouse pattern and then just cut a series of rectangles and straight lines. Sleeve slits by hand, some quick pintucks with the twin needle and overlocking with the viscose thread... And now about to relax with minutely hemming the rest of this ruffle by hand. #Sewing #HandSewing #Linen

@stepheneb @FanCityKnits Hello, hi! I make pretty much all of my clothes these days and tend to use a lot of handsewing techniques even when it's not strictly necessary, because some things are easier by hand and I find it relaxing!
