Psyched to shoot my first roll of large format film on my “new” camera from 1917-ish: a Kodak “No. 2 Folding Autographic Brownie” (sez so, right on the handle). Only 8 pics/ roll, cuz they’re like 4 inches! Shooting Ilford 400 speed B&W. Will find a way to use the timed shutter: release once to open, release again to close.

Turns out this is just medium format. Can't imagine what size camera you'd need for large format negatives. Also, I've learned that my camera is missing the outside lens, despite its otherwise barely used condition. This roll will all be unusable. Now to figure out how to replace the lens...

Unbelievably good news. B&H rocks as uzh. My #Autographic Brownie’s not s’posed to have an exterior #lens (at least not this one), he assured me. ME: But junk will get in during timed #exposures (I can touch the #aperture opening!), HE: (in the smoothest Slavic accent) “Do not worry about that.” So my test roll continues, yay.
Since I can use adapters for 120 roll film in my Folding #Kodak Senior 616 *and* my 116 box #Brownies, I’m loading up on #film. The dubblefilm bubblegum is pink #tinted!
@GetMisch So the shutter is in front of the lens? Brownies and most box cameras are like that. It's handy not needing to worry about a lens cap.
Stuff could theoretically get in there. I think the best thing to do is just clean it out with a lens cloth & q-tip once in a while between rolls of film.
@14mission Yes, for my Brownie box cameras, the lens is hidden, I know what you mean. Here, I'm talking about my folding Autographic Brownie (photo earlier in this thread) so the lens - in this case, accessible aperture opening, actually - is hidden while folded, & only exposed when you're setting up for a photo. What a relief to hear from a professional that the lens isn't missing. Five more exposures to go in my first test roll -
@GetMisch Scrolled back and I see what you mean. Yeah it really *looks* like there should be something there.
