It feels like I'm dreaming rn, pixelfed.social really is the most active fedi server.

I'd like to take a moment to thank all of you for making this possible!

I dedicate this to everyone who doubted me and our community. This post is for y'all ❤️

@dansup so far I'm having a blast using #Pixelfed. It makes me feel like it's 2012 again. Thank you for helping me divest from Meta; it's been a complex process.

It's so refreshing to see a platform creator expressing a philosophy that is truly consistent with the FOSS community. I felt compelled to contribute and am proud to have backed Pixelfed on Kickstarter. Nice work and good luck.

@zackgomez Thank you, your kind words mean a lot, and I'm really excited for everything we have planned!

We're just getting started, and your support and the Kickstarter will really help us get more hands on deck to evolve even faster

That feeling you get, those early internet vibes never really went away, they were just hidden with ads and engagement driven algos on IG

It's really magic what happens when you remove money from the equation, you see social media how it was meant to be:

@dansup congratulations! That’s quite an accomplishment
@dansup we have to say thank you, now we habe a new home in the world wide web
@dansup I am new to the fediverse and I’m confused. Pixelfed is for photos and mastodon for short messages, right? Is it correct to list these instances on the same list?
@botolo86 Yes, because it's actually just another interface. You can also follow Mastodon users from Pixelfed (and see their photos). And you can follow Pixelfed users from Mastodon. And so it is with Loops. I hope I don't miss the registration phase there again. @dansup
@moon @dansup so basically it’s like it users on Pixelfed are posting Mastodon messages but they are displayed in a different way?

@botolo86 From Pixelfed, you will only be shown posts with photos from Mastodon, because Pixelfed is more of a photo community and the focus is on photos.

On Mastodon, photos from Pixelfed are displayed like a Mastodon post. I‘m @Sun, and if you follow me from Mastodon, you will see what I mean. @dansup

@botolo86 @dansup yes, but you can follow Pixelfed users from a Mastodon account, and vice versa, so they all form part of the same "network".

@botolo86
@dansup

- Mastodon is a note written on a scrap of paper
- Pixelfed is a quick doodle in the margins

All of these are written on paper and can be passed around the classroom effectively. Everyone can look at them too! The only thing that's different is the format.

@sloth @dansup so it’s like if suddenly Twitter, Facebook and Instagram would be under the same roof and I can see Facebook content from my Twitter account and viceversa? If so, if I already have an account on a Mastodon instance and I want to post and see photos like on Instagram, would it make sense for me to create a new account on a Pixelfed instance? And do I have to create one or I can use my Mastodon account to access a Pixelfed instance?

@botolo86 @dansup Yep, you got the right idea. All fediverse platforms speak the same language (ActivityPub), so they can all talk to each other.

Having multiple accounts might be nice if you'd like to use different interfaces to browse the social web, but it's theoretically possible to only have one account for everything.

The search bar is your friend: try typing "https://pixelfed.social/dansup" into Mastodon's search bar!

@sloth @dansup amazing, I’m getting closer to finally understanding the Fediverse. And ActivityPub was created by the same creator of Mastodon?
@botolo86 @dansup i think it's older than mastodon, but i'm not sure. if you feel like diving into that history rabbit hole, https://activitypub.rocks/ might be a good place to start
ActivityPub Rocks!

@dansup would you be interested in a collab on tracking ToS & moderation practices on the fediverse? We @opentermsarchive would be happy to get something started on that topic :)
I know @len was also interested.
@MattiSG @opentermsarchive @len oh gosh, yes very much! We should def chat, can you drop me an email to daniel at pixelfed dot org?
@dansup 💯💯💯💯💯💯🚀
