For Lunar New Year, a fun challenge: #ADramaLunies2025 for Asian dramas you've watched.
It starts today!
#ADramaLunies2025
January 29: Funniest scene
I think one of the funniest #kdrama scenes is in the second episode of #BadProsecutor, where they need to stop a plane. But here is a compilation of some of the MANY jokes in the first two episodes.

January 30: Most unexpected twist on a trope
A very common kdrama trope is for childhood friends to become lifelong romantic partners, true loves.
2521 doesn't do that. I feel they foreshadowed it well with the beach trip - Adult Hee-Do not remembering it, but a huge event for Teen Hee-Do. Young love was outgrown, too.
Many people HATED this ending. I think it was perfect. And realistic.

January 31: most memorable grandparent character
The #kdrama #Navillera is about a 70 year old man who, after the death of his friend and against his family's wishes, finally decides to do what he has wanted to do his whole life: dance ballet.
A beautiful story about whether or not it is too late to follow your dreams.

February 1: most memorable use of sound
I love how there can be theme songs for certain characters.
One I especially like is the saxophone for Seo Dan Ah in the #kdrama #RunOn. She is clever, plotting, with an odd sense of humor. She is fully confident in herself, too.
Here is the official audio for the "CEO Seo" theme music.

February 2: Drama dropped, picked up again and enjoyed
The #cdrama #TheUntamed
It starts with a battle, then a time jump to the future, then a time jump to the past. When I tried watching it the first time, I wasn't familiar with all the names the same person could be called in Chinese culture. (Wei Wuxian, Wei Ying, A'Ying, ...) By episode 7, I was too confused to continue. But the fandom is HUGE. So I tried again, knowing 30 eps are a flashback. That helped!
February 3: most memorable line
This is silly, but it makes me smile and I think about it often. In the #kdrama #RunOn, the male lead is very clueless about pop culture and somehow becomes friends with a guy whose name is LITERALLY the same word as "movie" and they become "E.T. chingus (friends)". They touch pointer fingers to start a heart-to-heart talk.
SO CUTE! Male friendships in kdramas are some of the best.
February 4: most memorable sidekick
Dr. Doh Jae-Hak in the #kdrama #HospitalPlaylist. I love how much he loves and supports and encourages and takes care of Jun-won in the cardiology department. Jae-Hak is endearing and smiling and exuberant to Jun-won's aloof prickliness.

(So many other "sidekick" characters are really whole secondary characters (Woo Do-Hwan as the Unbreakable Sword in TKEM), but Jae-Hak really is the Robin to Jun-won's Batman.)
February 5: Most memorable child actor (under 13)
Zhang Xi Wei, who I loved as the young FL in the #cdrama #HiddenLove and as the younger sister in #WillLoveInSpring
February 6: most memorable bandaging
In the #cdrama #SheAndHerPerfectHusband, Yang Hua and Qin Shi become a fake couple for Reasons. Qin Shi is first introduced to Yang Hua in a fancy evening gown as a put-together lawyer.
In ep 5, Yang Hua visits her home for the first time and sees she's actually a clumsy slob. She is limping from stubbing her toe.

In ep 6, we find out he quietly bandaged her toe while she slept.

February 7: most memorable character development
The Crown Prince in the #kdrama #AlchemyOfSouls, across both seasons.
He is in a unique position, with his role and title at risk, evil doers trying to control the palace, and somehow he finds his own way through.
With the help of a turtle.

February 8: saddest scene
When Jang Jae-Yeol has to say goodbye to Han Kang-Woo in the #kdrama #ItsOkayThatsLove
MEGA SPOILERS in this video:

February 9: most obvious product placement and did you buy the product?
Every modern #kdrama has Maxim brand coffee mix. Yes, I have gotten boxes of Maxim instant coffee mix. (Good! A lot of sugar though.)
Every modern kdrama features someone trying Kopiko brand coffee candy. Yes, I've tried the Kopiko hard candies. (Good!)
Every modern kdrama has characters using Samsung Flip and Fold phones. Yes, I am posting this from a Samsung Flip phone. My second one, in fact. 🫣
February 10: worst case of second lead syndrome
Before I knew 2LS was a thing, Kim Seon-ho proved it for me in the #kdrama #StartUp. I was on Team Good Boy (his character's nickname in Start-Up).
Here's a fan video of him being jealous.

February 11: most memorable villain
This girl in the pink satin hoodie and broken mirror mask in the #ThaiDrama #Enigma
February 12: most memorable food (eating or slapping)
The meal in s2ep12 of the #cdrama #JoyOfLife where three engaged couples have lunch together.
There are so many dynamics at play. A couple who loves each other. A couple who hate each other. A couple who are both lovably dumb in their own way. Poisoning. Axes. War horse?

This scene where Fan Xian throws his wheelchair at Li Chengze is just one of many attacks during a family lunch.

February 13: Most memorable design for the opening credits
Pachinko season 1. The song, the dancing, the pachinko parlor? Yes.

February 14: Most memorable kiss
Somehow, this kiss scene is both hot and weird at the same time. It's from 2016, and the FL is very modest and chaste, so she stares open-eyed, unresponsive as Yang Yang makes out with her face. 😅
#ADramaLunies2025
February 15: most beautiful location
The fireworks bridge in the #kdrama #SeeYouInMy19thLife is such a memorable location and really quite beautiful all lit up. The whole show had many beautiful locations.
I couldn't find any good pictures of it via search, so got these screenshots from the linked fan video.
Major spoilers in this fan video, which makes me want to re-watch the whole thing!

#ADramaLunies2025 last one!
February 16: an actor that inspired a quest
Park Hyung-sik was my first quest actor. He's been in a ton of shows, and he is best at yearning! 😁
* Soundtrack # 1
* Two Lights: Relumino
* Strong Woman Do Bong Soon
* The Heirs
* High Society
* Suits
* Hwarang
* In The Soop: Friendcation
* Happiness
* Our Blooming Youth
I'm going to have to rewatch that one. I watched it early on before I knew all the things I had to pay attention to, so I never noticed that.
Thanks for the video - made me laugh!!
