For Lunar New Year, a fun challenge: #ADramaLunies2025 for Asian dramas you've watched.

It starts today!

#ADramaLunies2025
January 29: Funniest scene

I think one of the funniest #kdrama scenes is in the second episode of #BadProsecutor, where they need to stop a plane. But here is a compilation of some of the MANY jokes in the first two episodes.

January 30: Most unexpected twist on a trope

A very common kdrama trope is for childhood friends to become lifelong romantic partners, true loves.

2521 doesn't do that. I feel they foreshadowed it well with the beach trip - Adult Hee-Do not remembering it, but a huge event for Teen Hee-Do. Young love was outgrown, too.

Many people HATED this ending. I think it was perfect. And realistic.

January 31: most memorable grandparent character

The #kdrama #Navillera is about a 70 year old man who, after the death of his friend and against his family's wishes, finally decides to do what he has wanted to do his whole life: dance ballet.

A beautiful story about whether or not it is too late to follow your dreams.

February 1: most memorable use of sound

I love how there can be theme songs for certain characters.

One I especially like is the saxophone for Seo Dan Ah in the #kdrama #RunOn. She is clever, plotting, with an odd sense of humor. She is fully confident in herself, too.

Here is the official audio for the "CEO Seo" theme music.

February 2: Drama dropped, picked up again and enjoyed

The #cdrama #TheUntamed

It starts with a battle, then a time jump to the future, then a time jump to the past. When I tried watching it the first time, I wasn't familiar with all the names the same person could be called in Chinese culture. (Wei Wuxian, Wei Ying, A'Ying, ...) By episode 7, I was too confused to continue. But the fandom is HUGE. So I tried again, knowing 30 eps are a flashback. That helped!

#ADramaLunies2025

February 3: most memorable line

This is silly, but it makes me smile and I think about it often. In the #kdrama #RunOn, the male lead is very clueless about pop culture and somehow becomes friends with a guy whose name is LITERALLY the same word as "movie" and they become "E.T. chingus (friends)". They touch pointer fingers to start a heart-to-heart talk.

SO CUTE! Male friendships in kdramas are some of the best.

#ADramaLunies2025

February 4: most memorable sidekick

Dr. Doh Jae-Hak in the #kdrama #HospitalPlaylist. I love how much he loves and supports and encourages and takes care of Jun-won in the cardiology department. Jae-Hak is endearing and smiling and exuberant to Jun-won's aloof prickliness.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dffHfgA2n1g

(So many other "sidekick" characters are really whole secondary characters (Woo Do-Hwan as the Unbreakable Sword in TKEM), but Jae-Hak really is the Robin to Jun-won's Batman.)

Zhang Xi Wei, who I loved as the young FL in the #cdrama #HiddenLove and as the younger sister in #WillLoveInSpring

February 6: most memorable bandaging

In the #cdrama #SheAndHerPerfectHusband, Yang Hua and Qin Shi become a fake couple for Reasons. Qin Shi is first introduced to Yang Hua in a fancy evening gown as a put-together lawyer.

In ep 5, Yang Hua visits her home for the first time and sees she's actually a clumsy slob. She is limping from stubbing her toe.

In ep 6, we find out he quietly bandaged her toe while she slept.

February 7: most memorable character development

The Crown Prince in the #kdrama #AlchemyOfSouls, across both seasons.

He is in a unique position, with his role and title at risk, evil doers trying to control the palace, and somehow he finds his own way through.

With the help of a turtle.

February 8: saddest scene

February 9: most obvious product placement and did you buy the product?

Every modern #kdrama has Maxim brand coffee mix. Yes, I have gotten boxes of Maxim instant coffee mix. (Good! A lot of sugar though.)

Every modern kdrama features someone trying Kopiko brand coffee candy. Yes, I've tried the Kopiko hard candies. (Good!)

Every modern kdrama has characters using Samsung Flip and Fold phones. Yes, I am posting this from a Samsung Flip phone. My second one, in fact. 🫣

February 10: worst case of second lead syndrome

Before I knew 2LS was a thing, Kim Seon-ho proved it for me in the #kdrama #StartUp. I was on Team Good Boy (his character's nickname in Start-Up).

Here's a fan video of him being jealous.

February 12: most memorable food (eating or slapping)

The meal in s2ep12 of the #cdrama #JoyOfLife where three engaged couples have lunch together.

There are so many dynamics at play. A couple who loves each other. A couple who hate each other. A couple who are both lovably dumb in their own way. Poisoning. Axes. War horse?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dT14F_-w2MM

This scene where Fan Xian throws his wheelchair at Li Chengze is just one of many attacks during a family lunch.

February 14: Most memorable kiss

Somehow, this kiss scene is both hot and weird at the same time. It's from 2016, and the FL is very modest and chaste, so she stares open-eyed, unresponsive as Yang Yang makes out with her face. 😅

February 15: most beautiful location

The fireworks bridge in the #kdrama #SeeYouInMy19thLife is such a memorable location and really quite beautiful all lit up. The whole show had many beautiful locations.

I couldn't find any good pictures of it via search, so got these screenshots from the linked fan video.

Major spoilers in this fan video, which makes me want to re-watch the whole thing!

February 16: an actor that inspired a quest

Park Hyung-sik was my first quest actor. He's been in a ton of shows, and he is best at yearning! 😁

@JillsJoy

There's a similar scene in "Destined with You" and it's one of my favorites.

Now I might have to put "See You in My 19th Life" further up on the watch list.

#kDrama

@whoosh I think both myself and @RomanticIsa really liked 19th life, but others did not. 😁
@JillsJoy @whoosh @RomanticIsa
It was an interesting concept but neither of the leads are my favourite actors so I didn't enjoy it as much as many.
@JillsJoy
I can't view that without opening YT. The kisses are the most frustrating part of #kdrama romances for me! There are SO many bad ones. Wide-eyed stares, lips just mashed together, a chin being kissed instead of a mouth! I greatly appreciate it when the actors act like kissing is an enjoyable activity.
@EllenInEdmonton @JillsJoy I actually like it when kissing is acted almost symbolic. my imagination does the rest. the more realistic it is the more I feel bad for the actors and I start to think about the intimacy coaches watching with the rest of the film crew.
however, it seems comfortable and enjoyable in some scenes more than on others.
@konosocio @EllenInEdmonton @JillsJoy
I have a vague memory about chats in a forum about that. Saying there are/ were laws forbidding too ouspoken kisses on regual TV-shows.
Not sure f that is true.
Anyway, What the Queen did in The Queen Who Crowns was not just crowning, did she ? 🙂
@hanktank61 @konosocio @JillsJoy
I think that the level of kissing is determine by where/when the show is broadcast. The version of The Queen Who Crowns showed fabulous chemistry and passion but nothing explicit. I think there were different cuts of the show.
#kdrama

@JillsJoy is forgotten how awkward that kiss was! 😅

I do love the show though

@JillsJoy And such an Earworm!
@JillsJoy Once again you have chosen my choice! 😝 The only credit scene I didn’t usually skip (although its vibe is a weird contrast with the show haha)
@jcurries ha ha! It is so iconic, how could I choose any other? 😆
@JillsJoy Ooooh, that is quite special. Nice!
@JillsJoy This is the one that first came to my mind. I thought it was an interesting drama bc Good Boy was (to my mind) clearly more attractive/compelling and he had the “first love” k-drama advantage, but in spite of that I felt like she made the right choice. (Don’t think I could’ve though lol)

@JillsJoy This one immediately came to my mind, too. Team Good Boy all the way.

@jcurries

@JillsJoy

I had 2LS for #Startup too. (I think I was still mad at Nam Joo Hyuk for 25-21).

#kDrama

@JillsJoy omg, I was sooo close to getting a samsung flip last year, totally influenced by kdramas! 😂 But in the end I didn’t because my phone was (and is) working totally fine, so I couldn’t justify that purchase. Now, if this one breaks down though … 😁
@JillsJoy Yes, many have Maxim Gold, but not many have Maxim Gold the way Shopping King Louie has Maxim Gold. It’s practically a character 😂
@JillsJoy One of my daughters' bf gave me a giant jar of Kopiko candy for my birthday last year, because that's the thing he and I saw as the most obvious product placement.
@JillsJoy
Not me, bawling my eyes out before breakfast! This was so well-done. And the series started out mostly goofy and silly. Didn't stay that way.
@JillsJoy I love him and his turtle so much 😭

@JillsJoy

I'm going to have to rewatch that one. I watched it early on before I knew all the things I had to pay attention to, so I never noticed that.

@JillsJoy Oh, that seems wonderful! /cc @whoosh

@sbi @JillsJoy

It is really a beautiful drama!

@sbi @JillsJoy @whoosh
#Navillera is one of the best! Such a lovely drama. No romance, no serial killer, just a really lovely story about transitions in our lives. It was one of my earliest dramas and a fabulous role for #SongKang who studied ballet for 6 months in order to act the role.
@JillsJoy This is also my vote - a very memorable 할아버지
@JillsJoy thanks so much for mentioning #Navillera in the #adramalunies2025 posts. I don't think I would have ever found it otherwise. Who could have guessed a #kdrama about a retired postman learning ballet would be such a fabulous story with so many twists and turns and a lot of amazing dancing. On ep 7 and absolutely loving it.
@stuffjolikes you're welcome! It really is a gem!
@stuffjolikes @JillsJoy
I LOVE that show and really need to add it to my rewatch list! The characters and the story are so interesting. I also love that it doesn't focus on romance.
#kdrama
@JillsJoy I know too well how that feels :)

@JillsJoy

Thanks for the video - made me laugh!!
