Edit: possibly found what I'm looking for, but if this sounds good, it's possible to arrange other opportunities on the farm.

Friends: I'm looking for a farm sitter for a month or two. Off-grid, rainforest, primitive but comfortable, goats, poultry, dogs, cats, fruit trees, eggs, stars, views, safe, secluded. Experienced preferred, but will train the right person! The shoreline 30 min drive. Volcano National Park 40 minute drive. Recreational kayaks available. Starlink, full kitchen. Great for remote work, unless you need it to be quiet. Farms and jungles aren't quiet, but they are interesting. Bring earplugs if you hate roosters and coqui frogs. Time commitment as little as 1 hr a day (negotiable) plus overnights. #BigIsland #Hawaii #travel #adventure #worktrade #solarpunk #solarpunkIRL

@saltphoenix I dunno when we last actually interacted. I followed you back when twitter was cool and SMS based... I had set things up so I got a text any time "#unschool" was used.

I'm glad to have found you again here and find that you're even cooler than I remember.

I recently learned that a dear old friend lives in Lahaina these days. If I can make a visit work out some day and it lines up with y'all needing a hand I'd love to. I also have family on Oahu I haven't seen in forever. I don't know how reasonable it is to try and visit 3 islands in one trip, but it's all a distant dream right now anyway.

@saltphoenix I'm perpetually broke on account of engaging with capitalism as little as I can, but I work part time remotely. I have a lot to learn, but have lived and worked on permaculture projects and spent lockdown helping out with livestock on a hobby farm
@nomadfarmer interisland travel is fairly common, it's like taking the bus only more expensive lol You can sometimes get those short flights for under $100. It only takes 40-50 minutes in the air.
@nomadfarmer but yeah, lmk! 🖤 Cheapest September -May, except during holidays. Hawaiian, Alaskan or Southwest will be cheapest. ITO is my closest airport.
@saltphoenix I'll be surprised if I can make it happen any sooner than a year or two from now, but I reckon I'm collecting more and more reasons to get back out that way.
@nomadfarmer it's a long way to everywhere from here. 😅
@saltphoenix Yeah. These days I'm in Virginia. And also in ana fairly active band active band again -- taking a month or two to leave town will require some planning there. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZKExD741KfQ

@nomadfarmer fuuuun. So book some shows out here.
@nomadfarmer Blue Note Hawaii on Oahu, and Hilo Town tavern in Hilo, maybe a few other little bars on island. We all love new talent. Maybe they can, in part , help pay for your trip. Idk venues on other islands, but I could probably find out.
@nomadfarmer And I say this because I've seen promoters pay for airline tickets, and crash space for punk shows. (Small population of punk here) Surely you can find some that will give you a few dollars towards your talents, or maybe the house cover charges or something. I don't know how you normally work with venues.
@saltphoenix We don't know either -- that video is from our first show, just over a year ago. At this point we're all happy with ramping up how much we're playing, but still haven't done a regional tour. I'll definitely bring it up -- and remember to suggest tours to all my far-flung friends I miss.
@nomadfarmer for real though, if you're not too good for a tent or a couch lol Y'all could go all over the place, if otherwise you get to work remotely.
