A good read at https://pluralistic.net/2022/10/29/how-to-leave-dying-social-media-platforms/ about why it’s just so hard to ditch the big social media platforms. As relevant today as ever! It’s a slow process for me, but I’ve already deleted Facebook and have moved most of my common contact conversations from WhatsApp to Signal.
Instagram is a little harder; it’s so damn hard to lose touch with the community built up for years, especially when it’s your only means of contact with some people. For now, it’s a matter of starving it of new data, and seeing who wants to move.
Everything comes to an end eventually though, and whether it’s now or in 5 years, it’s gonna happen. So why not take control and ownership of it?
