@Helga_Jannelle I'm working on it... Just too many friends and family on Facebook. Although, I have deleted it from my phone for quite a while now, and it turns out that I really don't check it very often on my computer. So maybe I just need to bite the bullet, write a "ask me for contact info in the next 30 days, before I delete my account" post, and call it good.
@Scrape I will miss the community trading post on Facebook, the wild ice skating club, and being able to see who knows who.
Most my family has my number or my parents number so if they need to communicate with me they can find me.
It was time for me to go. Was no longer interested in being a source of revenue and data for Zuck. Also every third post in my feed was ads or people they were suggesting I follow.
@Scrape It was also liberating to let go of all the connections of people’s lives I was watching from past chapters of life and so on. It will be interesting to see how my mind and scrolling behaviors adapt. I have definitely typed Facebook into my browser many times out of habit. Like you, I didn’t like using the app.
There is a sense of relief much like leaving X. To know you don’t have to tend to an identity in meta and fight all the influences of the company.
I never got too involved in any FB groups. But I did make some use of the Marketplace, so I've got to decide what the right substitute for that is.
And then probably just make a reasonable home page or whatever for friends and family to keep up if they so desire.
