Stories are coming to @PixelFed, but they will be optional.

Want to hide the carousel and never get any story notifications? No problem.

We can support Story lovers and haters by giving control back to the people, instead of forcing you to use or see them.

@dansup @PixelFed Bad call imho. Two different products, two different use cases. Each making the other worse if sharing an app.

@fabienmarry @dansup @PixelFed At least the option is there.

I know some people that consider general photo sharing and story should be in a single package.

@crse @dansup @PixelFed Option are the death of a good experience. Split resources in two.

@fabienmarry @crse @dansup @PixelFed “options are the death of a good experience” said no one ever.

But sure, with that logic, let’s remove accessibility, dark mode, and other things from every app ever. Make it so sparse that even the Guggenheim is like 👀 !!!

@powerlessranger @crse @dansup @PixelFed it’s a balance. And yes reducing options by careful focus is core. Apple phrases it as “a thousand no for every yes”.

@crse @dansup @PixelFed Stories = temporary, ephemeral
Photos = timeless, eternal.

Very different things.

@dansup @PixelFed

honestly have never understood the point of stories

@darwinwoodka @dansup @PixelFed Having used Instagram admittedly too much, there are plenty of things I wanted to share but didn’t feel the need to make a permanent post about. Stories offer an in-between. I think they help drive up short-term engagement and drive down costs because storage for those posts is temporary instead of permanent
@BmeBenji @darwinwoodka @dansup @pixelfed this
I like to post photos of places I go, concerts, etc. I like to share a very good photo (as a permanent post) but also show a few of the “discarded” ones (as a temporary post/story)
Different ways of sharing the same content
@dansup @PixelFed Great! Will it also be possible to post all video formats, e.g. .mov?
@dansup @PixelFed bravoo🔥✨👌🏻🚀 you are Great 🥳
