Diary of an ASD Squirrel. Day 455 , Saturday 25/01/2025

Saturday started considerably better than Friday did.
We got away really lightly as far as storm Éowyn was concerned, it was a bit windy but nothing we haven’t seen before.

A nice peaceful morning as Mrs S was off visiting her mum.

Got some FO76 achievements sorted after doing my chores.

Mrs S got back around 13:30 bruised fruit & all, as usual.

Watched last nights episode of ‘The Last Leg’ over lunch.

Then we watched the cop show she loves - all afternoon!

Had a naughty takeaway for tea - pizza burger & chips for me!
We watched ‘Hidden figures’ which is a great movie, highlighting why we should make best use of EVERYONES capabilities.

Obviously the fact that it stars an IBM 7090 mainframe was also of a little interest to me! 😆

I am always amazed at how far technology has advanced, in 1961 running at 24,000 operations per second this mainframe was one of the fastest computers available. A little over 60 years later the A16 chip in my iPhone performs 17 Trillion in that same second! Not only that but the 7090 took up a whole room & they needed to remove the door to get the main processing unit into that room. Today that all fits on a single chip about the size of a postage stamp (please don’t get pedantic on the exact sizes here on me about this, it for illustration purposes only!).

El Capitan, the fastest supercomputer in the world - which can do in a second four times more calculations than a human could do performing 1 calculation a second since the Big Bang would have , to quote Douglas Adams badly, derived from first principles the existence of rice pudding in the time the 3070 took to warm up!

Final Thoughts.

The generation born at the beginning of the space race , I was born the just 2 years before the first man walked on the moon, have seen enormous leaps in technology, we failed to ensure that society moved apace.
It saddens me that this is the case!

Thank you to all those who are helping me on this journey, in a myriad different ways. I am thankful to each & every one of you! 🫂 🫶🐿️🖖

I loved Hidden Figures. Ask Mrs S which Cop show? We got hung up on some Aussie Cop series and binged watched until the series ended.
My wife wouldn't watch Shameless with me but I loved it.
I'm surprised at techno advances that I could not plan, like, after I bought DOS 4, DOS 5 came out?
After I bought Top of the line Colour Palm Pilots, the smartphones easily replaced them..

@Rasta @actuallyautistic Morning Rasta 👋😊

It’s called Unforgotten - it’s ok but I’m kinda cop showed out.

Oh tech moves at a pace, military get it first, then big corporations then the rest of us. By the time we get to see it the next iteration is out! Trying to keep up is always gonna be frustrating!
