The New York Times reports that Trump is making the Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board de facto inoperable. This punches the first major hole in EU-US data transfers agreement (TADPF).

Using US Cloud providers could quickly violate the GDPR (even in the European Commission's view).

US Cloud soon illegal? Trump punches first hole in EU-US Data Deal

Trump paralysed the "Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board" (PCLOB), a key element of the EU-US data transfer deal that allows EU-US data flows.

@noybeu Maybe using Clouds of US Based Companies is not a good idea anyways. How reliable is the whole thing now? With Trump being erratic as he is and the lapdog Oligarchs owning these clouds we might be in a better position, when avoiding too much dependencies with the US.
@noybeu You shouldn't use US cloud anyway. US was never an ally
@noybeu Ah comme c'est d'un comique. Avec la CE qui a passé tout son service sur M365. Tellement stricte avec la sécurité des données. Je me demande comment ils vont contourner le problème.
@noybeu Alright, I guess I'll make my own cloud. #p2p all the way.
@noybeu I open a complaint against our own DPA for Cloudflare usage this day, quoting your press release and asking for CJEU question

A silver lining to the fascist takeover in Washington would be if Europe can shake off its dependencies on the USA. From computing to military to social, you guys don't need us.

@noybeu most of the culprits already have data centres located in Europe, many in Ireland. The question is how will we know which centres they use?
The Emperor's New Data Deal? Trump's Actions Expose the TADPF's Fragility | EuroStack

President Trump's recent actions have thrown the EU-US Transatlantic Data Privacy Framework (TADPF) into disarray, exposing its fragility and the risks of relying on transatlantic agreements. This post explores the implications of Trump's moves for European digital sovereignty and the need for technological autonomy.

@gael @noybeu Did not know about https://euro-stack.com/

What a delightful breath of fresh air 💖

EuroStack - European Open Solutions for Digital Sovereignty

We help you find European-made and European-supported digital solutions, including cloud services, open source technologies, and interoperable tools, all designed to promote technological sovereignty and innovation.

@noybeu Does this affect personal users who never use the cloud or try not to?
@DoughPayMe @noybeu Yes. "US cloud" is to understand as "any US IT service, product, software or hardware"

@noybeu This Is what many Americans are unaware of. They continue to believe this is done only by China, Russia or rogue hackers.

“ The US on the other hand has very strong mass surveillance laws (e.g. FISA702 or EO 12.333), that allow the US government to access any data stored with Amazon, Meta, Microsoft, Google and any other US Big Tech firm without probable cause or individual judicial approval.”

@noybeu America is not Europe's friend now, cut the line. Cut everything. They're coming for us.
@noybeu It was not a good idea to host sensitive data in the U.S. even before Trump. Any government agency gets access to data without a warrant.

@noybeu

I can't help thinking that all previous data transfer agreements have been far-fetched anyway and just a legal contortion of political will.

Perhaps we should thank Trump that the assessment is now much easier.

On the other hand, the governments, lobbyists, parties, companies, private individuals, ... would also sign any explicit consent, even if it had the wording ‘Yes, I want Europe to become a digital colony. I am happy to give data, money, knowledge and power to US corporations.’

I am curious to see which path Europe will choose.

@noybeu Safeharbour was doomed, but EU/CH pushed it anyway
Privacy Shield was doomed, but EU/CH pushed it anyway
TADPF was doomed, but EU/CH pushed it anyway

next one will be the same, as long as Europeans live in the fantasy that we should build our economy on personal data acquisition.

European states should abandon surveillance-capitalism, and embrace no-log policies et right to anonymity for the individuals.

@noybeu I wonder what will happen first: the US collapsing or launching the third WW?
@noybeu So it is now urgent to stop any Health data hub and any other projects that rely on US Cloud providers and uses EU personnal data
@noybeu
Of course another of those 'Brexit Benefits' for the UK is that we don't need to worry about EU laws, we can continue donating all our data to the US without Brussels bureaucrats interfering. Sovrinty innit? #TADPF #Brexit #GDPR
@noybeu i would appreciate you remove X as social media from your site

@noybeu

Uh-uh, now the (perceived ;-) low risk of invalidation of the data privacy framework from one day to another seems to materialize.

This is going to put many (if not all) businesses and economies under major stress.

@noybeu That would create a serious problem to my work :D but on the other hand it could force the use of #nextcloud and boost its development throughout Europe etc. :)
@noybeu Fascism is incompatible with the future
@bert_hubert
The executive orders and the current actions of the big tech companies also impact the risk analysis for the other transfer mechanisms and the risk for 'further processing' of data stored in the EU.
@noybeu I really LOVE (irony) how Doctolib has been mandatory here in France (and if you don't use it, your pratician does, which is equivalent) and that Doctolib uses Amazon for database provider!
@noybeu
Data van Onedrive worden zo te zien in de regio opgeslagen.
Data van Nederlandse Onedrivegebruikers wordt dus NIET in Amerika opgeslagen (hoop ik).
#onedrive #dataopslag

@noybeu

#Trump administration asked resignation from the three Democrats on the US Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board, leaving the watchdog without a quorum thus rendering it useless. Is #DPF still #adequate? Can we still use US based #cloud ? #EU_EDPB #DataPrivacyFramework #gdpr
