Daily life in 2025.

#AI #Tech #JustLetMeBe #FFS

Sci-fi has long insisted that the arrival of AI would be a singular moment in human civilisation, one so significant it would immediately change everything forever, for better or worse

Instead it's been a steady, inexorable increase in having to say "Will you just FU*K OFF!" multiple times daily

@Garwboy They try to sell LLMs as AI. So sci-fi is probably still right, we just need to call it General AI or GAI because marketing ruined the term AI.
@Garwboy Well remember that that's in part because we don't have AI. What we have is predictive type-ahead turned up to 13, glorified markov chains that we're told are intelligence. Hype, hype, hype, all the way down.
@Garwboy well perhaps that's because it hasn't arrived at all; we're just being told it has.
@Garwboy We aren't anywhere near the arrival of #AI. My best guess is we're still at least fifty years away from it.
@simon_brooke @Garwboy - a bit like commercial generation with nuclear fusion reactors then?

@tompearce49 @Garwboy No, I think #AI probably will eventually happen.

Commercially viable #NuclearEnergy reactors? No chance.

@Garwboy I would suggest the reason for this increase is that what they're selling & telling us is AI, isn't

And they, the creators & owners of this "not AI", are desperate to make enough money from it before we realise, that they become unprosecutable like all the other billionaires

@Garwboy

Vivaldi Browser refuses to use #AI

Just saying...

@Garwboy it's an added value proposition gone horribly wrong
@Garwboy it is just the way "they" want it, whoever "they" are...
@Garwboy The interesting thing about the AI boom is that we learned in the first week where and how it can be actually useful. And now we are trying 'everything else' for the sake of selling a brand or a product that nobody needs.
@SteveBallantyne @Garwboy At this point the forced feeding of AI in every industry that honestly _doesn't need it_ is ridiculous. It's like that adage throwing spaghetti at the wall to see what will stick.
@Garwboy Actually, you've been using AI all those years. Programs are just *full* of if-then-else statements.
@loadhigh @Garwboy That's the game developer's definition of AI... That's the AI that works. However, nowadays it isn't real AI, unless it doesn't work.
@Garwboy I wish “AI” had a higher barrier to entry like blockchain. Remember when companies were trying to shove blockchain into everything?
@Garwboy Most FLOSS is shunning this trend, thankfully. Switch to FLOSS whenever you can :)
@Garwboy only usefull thing that this whole "revolution" gave me is to expand my bulletpoints i used to put into documentation into useless bullshit wall of text. And every business manager tells me how nice the docs are -.-.
@m3tti the primary use case of AI is impressing gullible fools
@XauriEL so true ... so true. And now every tool and phone and device has this crap technology -.-. Its only usefull for more survilance and content generation for these exect technologies. 100% they are taking your texts and train the models with it
@XauriEL @m3tti The secondary use case of AI is destroying natural resources to power AI.

@Garwboy We didn't ask for it, yet it's being shoved into our faces. How very 'rapey' of these Tech Bros....😡

'Consent' isn't a word in their dictionary.

@Garwboy Teammate was showing off Chrome's AI dev tool just now. "You can even ask it how to make an element more accessible!" We watched it churn for 30 seconds or so before it announced that the item had a very good contrast ratio of 21:1.

You only need to click the font color in the non-AI side to see it's actually 8.45

Glad we're setting fire to the planet for this /s

@Garwboy Just today google offered to get gemini to "help" me with a work email. I am a published author of science fiction, I think I can write an email asking head office to order us garbage bags without assistance, please and thanks
@XauriEL @Garwboy Maybe you need that paperclip character to help you write a resume.
@Garwboy This image is perfect.
