the US being a functional democracy is basically going on hold for a while.
*IF* the GOP electorate regains some concept of sanity somehow, the US might come back.
I'm not at all hopeful about that.
"A divided house cannot stand" and the other side will be actively looking for their modern issue to start the war.
The MAGA portion of the electorate is ~40%. They're lost for a good while.
It's the ~10% who voted against us because they believe the dog-whistles & scapegoating, not because of considered, rational analysis, but because that's what everyone around them was saying.
We need to change that dynamic.
We need to tell a different story of who is to blame for preventing us from having quality education, healthcare, safe streets, etc.

In the past some would play around and vote for sh*t because they were angry with the current establishment. Although they knew that eventually good would take over. I wonder if people like that feel the same way now...?

After that things will get interesting.
These hearings are all going to be excruciating. The Dems will ask pointed questions while the Rs will try to dismiss them. The real question will be whether there are enough Senators willing to stand for democracy and refuse to confirm the truly unqualified nominees including but not limited to Hegseth, Gabbard, Patel, and Kennedy.

The instability for the world and the US is obvious. Just when we do not need it.
Trump is an aberration, no two ways about it.
But his means of breaking the law without consequence, flaunting and flouting norms and standards both social and legal, and his utter incompetence in every step have long been what the Republicans have sought to normalize in their deconstruction of what has long been considered a democratic state.
As it is, we have no way of knowing where this will go... a Napoleon of the stupid... a narcissistic emperor with no clothes... one thing I know, he probably will not deliver... except to himself...
Mid terms in two years, by then we know...
With the 2 parties in place, and big money driving it how much of a democracy is it in fact as it is...

@GottaLaff I can't help myself, but when I see all this, it's like watching a narcissistic child in pure revenge and anger about the whole world. Somebody who is not a minimum capable of taking response of his actions, shouldn't have so much power.
I hope that democrats are standing up against this movement. From the outside of the US, I personally have the impression that they are too quite and could do much more. They have to stop him !!!
