Hot-springs are not just for bathing. Around the world, people have come up with different ways to make the hot-springs do work for them. Here are some of them:

1️⃣ Hot-spring pools have become a neighborhood egg-cooking spot in many places around the world. In Japan, these eggs are called Onsen Tamago (温泉卵), and are slow-cooked in the natural spring water.

2️⃣ Natural Steam Cookers.

In some restaurants in Beppu(Japan), steam from the hot springs are piped to a pot in the center of the table. Customers put their food inside it, and set a timer. When the timer goes off, the food is cooked and ready to eat.

3️⃣ Volcano Bread

Cooking rye bread with the help of a volcano has a long history in Iceland. All you have to do is dig a hole near a hot-spring, place the dough (which is in a container) in the hole, and bury it. The boiling water will steam the dough to a dense but soft texture.

As an extra bonus, you can also cook some eggs when you are there.
