Thing.
You can care about stuff and be paid to care about it too, but you can't survive under capitalism (extracting wealth from poors for rich people to hoard) without being paid.
Anyone who says you should do something for the sake of it, "exposure", "experience" or similar is being a douche.
Even volunteering isn't something everyone CAN do.
In the UK, volunteering hours are limited for anyone on Universal Credit (benefits / social security / unemployment pay).
If you can't afford time off work to volunteer in ways you sustainably could otherwise, then you're still being restricted from contributing constructively to your environment.
I posted this on Twitter this morning: https://twitter.com/RichardJMurphy/status/1942861045426516103 My point is serious. The CBI is saying that the situation with regard to the UK stock exchange is getting desperate, because it is losing out to overseas markets and not attracting sufficient business. The question that needs to be asked is, why is that?...
Omni Mask: a clear / transparent / see-through / accessible thing to protect your from pathogens, the microbes that make you sick.
*Don't* get down with the sickness!

Using lip-reading to compensate for damaged hearing from Long Covid!
(Please see a qualified audiologist. I'm not an ENT doctor or sound technician; I'm just making an off-taste joke.)
the same nerds, on a platform owned by facebook and meta this time rather than google and alphabet.

More than 51% of Autistic scholars agree: this is the *good* kind of masking in public! #ActuallyAutistic or @actuallyautistic may confirm.
anything on FB is now technophobe outreach -- which, if you have the patience for it, is immensely helpful.
Even just simple, blanket statements really help e.g.
Face masks reduce your risk of catching illnesses.
Face masks reduce your risk of developing serious illnesses.
FFP3 respirators are good-quality, safe face masks.
Sanitise or replace your respirator regularly to maintain protection from illnesses.

There's a reason I want an OmniMask.
~ it's so I can be the coolest doomer at school ~
But also because I want more people to feel comfortable being around me:
both the immunocompromised or carers,
and people who read lips to help with Auditory Processing Disorder, loss of hearing, d/Deafness;
or anyone who just feels more comfortable seeing whole faces.
I definitely don't understand the "I want to see your FACE" people,
but I don't generally set out with the intention of unnerving people
(until they upset me and I've tried conflict resolution skills, but unfortunately haven't fully concluded it. THEN I get ornery!)

wtf is the name of that autistic group on here?
And was it a profile bot thing or a hashtag?
It's a group thing you tag (somehow!) that then @s the rest of the people following it?
(Do I count as an #AutisticElder if I'm over 30 years old?)
bwahahahah tis ActuallyAutistic, of both!

I then got a cute video about a cat bringing her kittens to stay with a human who showed it kindness.
I'd be super jazzed to watch it!
If not for the patronising / condescending music!
I know it's cute, asshole. That's why I clicked it. I don't need sappy audio sadness to claw at my heartstrings like I need convincing to care, ffs.
MAKE me care or LET me care. Not both.

"Maybe you already know how your immune system works, but you’d like someone to sum it all up in a way that helps you articulate the details when your friends and relatives bash you for protecting yourself.
So, where did this idea come from—it’s good to get sick?
It has a history.
Let’s start with a basic question: Where exactly did this idea come from that you have to train your immune system?"
#immune #ImmuneResponse #Immunity #ImmuneSystem #Infection #Infections #pathogensAirborneTransmission #virus #bacteria #protist #paramecia #fungus #illness
"The old friends hypothesis now serves as the dominant model for how microbes work with our immune system.
According to immunologists, kids need to be playing outside more and eating fresher, healthier foods.
That's what helps their immune systems.
Getting sick all the time just hurts them.
Like many debunked ideas, hygiene theory and the myth of the bored immune system have become entrenched.
A couple of years ago, hygiene theory got repackaged as "immunity debt."
News media spent all winter of 2022 and 2023 debating this concept instead of throwing it in the trash.
Now Americans, Canadians, and many Europeans think they need to get sick to stay healthy.
[Rich people and their lackeys] have absolutely no problem with that.
It saves them countless billions to let everyone continue thinking they're better off letting diseases run around in their cells."
"The immunity debt lie resonated so much with Americans because it revived the older myth of the bored immune system.
This piece of misinformation has done just as much damage to public health as anti-vaxxer junk.
Think about it.
If people think getting sick makes them healthy, they’re going to blow off vaccines—and they won’t even cover their mouth when they cough.
So:
Your immune system doesn't work like a muscle.
It doesn't get stronger the more it's exposed to different harmful germs.
It doesn't need practice."

"Phillipp Dettmer gives a vivid, accessible breakdown of the immune system in his 2021 book, Immune.
You can show it to any internet troll who brags about their knowledge of the immune system.
Dettmer destroys misinformation, explaining how your adaptive immune system actually works, as well as your gut microbiome.
As many articles and books explain, your body has an innate immune system that already knows how to fight off pathogens.
You can help your immune system by feeding it the nutrients it needs.
You can protect your immune system from pollution, cigarette smoke, and other toxins.
But genetics determines a lot of your immunological makeup.
You can be born with an immune system that doesn't work the way it should, and it's not your fault. [This applies to every disability.]
You also have an adaptive immune system that stores chemical blueprints of pathogens in memory T and B cells.
According to a 2024 article in Nature, these cells respond better to specific pathogens your body has seen before.
Those blueprints last only as long as your memory cells.
Sometimes those cells mature and stay around for years, even decades.
If they don't, then your body won't remember the pathogen."

"No credible doctor or immunologist recommends building your immune system by welcoming viral and bacterial infections into your life. The costs far outweigh the benefits. Many viruses exact a price on your body and your immune system. Getting infected over and over again makes you weaker, not stronger. Vaccines don't work because they give your immune system practice. They work because they allow your body to develop a memory of a pathogen without all the risk.
Many viruses, like the flu, often leave lasting damage even when your immune system fights them off. Your immune system actually does some of that damage itself by attacking infected cells. In the wake of flu, your entire body including your immune system needs time to recover. During that stage, you're vulnerable to opportunistic infections. Other viruses, like measles and Ebola, disable your immune system and even wipe out memory cells.
That's also what SARS-2 does, among many other things."
You do not want Long Covid.
Or if you already have it, you do not want *worse* Long Covid.
https://www.the-sentinel-intelligence.net/how-your-immune-system-actually-works-3/?ref=ok-doomer-newsletter
Partly true. Partly wrong.
Our mammalian immune systems are highly developed. They do remember most infections.
However, our immune systems intentionally forget most RNA virus infections.
It isn't just a matter of the virus changing.
In identifying that the virus will change our immune systems recognize the futility of maintaining immunity and so choose to forget to avoid carrying useless immunity and the burden that entails.
or possibly 😽
