Just wondering if any radio hams have bought ferrites from Ali Excess, the sort Im looking at are for common mode chokes and ununs

#ferrite #hamradio #amateurradio #antenna

Im guessing not from the stunning response...

@EA7KRC You could try asking on 'X', where you'll be labelled a China-supporting communist. Or something.

I wouldn't particularly want to risk unknown mix ferrites. They may be perfectly fine, but without some form of accountability, you can't really know what you're using.

That, plus just signing up to Ali Express oddly ends up with spam emails and even phone calls. Not quite what I'd trust with my money.

@MW1CFN
Lol yes fair enough, given that probably 90% of everything pretty much comes from China, being labelled as a Commie is the least of my worries lol.
I might just risk a pack of clip on ferrites and have a hunt round in Europe for ferrites from reputable outlets..

@EA7KRC Yes, those reputable companies likely apply their own brand to generic output from China. But at least you can ask for your money back from a more local company; there's no recourse against self-import Chinese products at all.

It is a problem. I wanted some 20kV caps recently and now have to decide whether to choose to spend £1 each from a UK company, or less than half that by direct-import.

@MW1CFN
This is true. I did have a look around in Spain but they are like rocking horse manure, either that or Im looking in the wrong place.
I was suprised at the cost some are charging.
I have plenty of time, I will fire up the laptop and hunt around.
@EA7KRC @MW1CFN I bought mine off Ebay in Canada. Pretty sure they would ship to Spain.
@VE7WYC @MW1CFN
Thank you, I will take a look. Europe and in particular Spain seems short of component suppliers that will ship small amounts.
@EA7KRC @MW1CFN I bought four 240-43 ferrites. They were fine and as advertised. However that particular seller doesn't seem to be there anymore, but there are others.
@EA7KRC @MW1CFN
I have been buying my large ferrites from Ham Goodies website, so far I'm happy but then I'm really not sitting down and testing them in detail.
@M0KHR @MW1CFN I will take a look at that, thank you
@EA7KRC I have not but over the last several years I have made many purchases from them and they seem to be what they say they are
@kf5kwf
Thank you. Never used them yet, but its looking like I will be soon

@EA7KRC I have bought a couple of ready-made 9:1 UnUns, and they were pretty much 'rubbish construction' category, even I could do better - luckily easy to improve.

One was a slightly better ready-made 49:1 UnUn, and inspecting inside was a pleasanter surprise, with a decently large sized 'unknown' ferrite and much better construction quality.

@M0KHR
Thank you, pretty much as I suspected. But worth asking to confirm.
A few years ago, I did buy a cheapo 9:1 unun, I think from Amazon, a qrp jobby, not great but does seem to work ok. Its going in my end fed in a few weeks till I can make a better one, hence the query.
