What do you use to clean your laptop screens?

#ComputerBasics

@noondlyt I'm terrified to clean my laptop screen because I obviously used the wrong thing once and it made a smear that I could not remove for the life of that laptop.

so basically be careful and I suggest start with maybe a small amount of water on a microfiber cloth

then again you're probably better off listening to anyone else

@dannotdaniel I have done the same.

@noondlyt be careful with lens cleaner type stuff

I think it might have been that

@noondlyt if it wasn't that then it was actually some product that claimed to be for cleaning laptop screens but that just would drive me nuts if that were true

@noondlyt what I do now is I use a dry cloth to brush whatever material away I can.

then a clean soft cotton or microfiber with small amount of water.

low pressure at first, but I end up using more as needed.

this is not advice this is just what I have been doing since I got burned that one time 🤣

@dannotdaniel I tried lens cleaner once. BAD!
@noondlyt oh that's interesting so it's not just in my head
@dannotdaniel nope and we have another lens cleaner victim in the thread
no it's definetly Physics @dannotdaniel
Glas and Plastics are radically different.

WHOOSH!

@scottwillsey @noondlyt

That's what I use. Works well, no issues.

I made the mistake of using an eye glass cleaner, but I didn't notice it had an anti-fog component.

The screen had obvious smudges for a long long while. Whoosh eventually got it off.

@Sir_Osis_of_Liver @scottwillsey Thank you! I think there is a wide swath of humanity that has tried lens cleaner. We should have formed a support group a decade ago.

@noondlyt @scottwillsey

Right? 🙂

If it's a bit of dust, I'll just use a dry microfibre cloth.

Inevitably, I'll be discussing something with a co-worker and one of us will end up pointing to something on screen and smudge it. It's just the way it goes. That's when I'll use Whoosh.

Still better than one particular engineer. He'd point with his ball point pen. Not a big deal with a glass CRT, MUCH bigger issue on a laptop screen.

He retired before I could give him the thrashing he deserved. 🙂

@noondlyt Light spray with Windex and wipe with a cotton cloth.

Basically spray and then wipe before the drips reach the bottom of the screen.

Pure rubbing alcohol.

Windex will also do.

Use a lens rag. It makes no scratches.

If that all fails, use a drill and hammer.

@noondlyt tek-7 organic cleaner on to a lint free cloth. Don't put too much if it's an old touch screen.
No smears.
@noondlyt To clean my laptop screen I always spray a little lens cleaner on a microfiber cloth and wipe gently*.
* I spit on my finger (or the screen) and scrub with my fingertip, then wipe it with my sleeve.
@noondlyt lens cleaner from my optometrist 😀 they give me a bottle when I get new glasses so I just spritz the monitors with it as well. Works well!

@noondlyt

I found a dustpan and brush is best
