Want to be happy? Then don’t buy a car!

Instead choose a bike, a cargo bike, or an e-bike. 🚲 That is the route to true happiness. 🤗

How extreme car dependency is driving Americans to unhappiness

A car is often essential in the US but while owning a vehicle is better than not for life satisfaction, a study has found, having to drive too much sends happiness plummeting

@breadandcircuses wait until they realise that the suburban sprawl that made the car a necessity is basically an unsustainable pyramid scheme. They'll be even unhappier, and still stuck in suburban hell with their cars...
@breadandcircuses More like, live in an area where you don't have to own a car. Sadly I don't have such a luxury, though on good days i can still take my ebike 24 miles round trip to work. WAY too dangerous to bike around drivers on wet days.
@breadandcircuses I've been saying #NoCarNoProblem for ages but people think I'm joking.
@breadandcircuses @larryneufeld Completely. I think the irritation of driving infects peoples personalities. The diatribe that comes back in some circles when asking for bike lanes or commenting on size of road expansion is unbelievable. Not happiness for sure. 😊

@breadandcircuses Sigh. I rode my bike a lot and commuted to work on it for many years. Now I'm in my late 60's, and I drive more than I should. Got out yesterday and it felt great though.
@breadandcircuses So, the key to happiness is swapping traffic for pedals? Maybe I' ll give it a try . Atleast I won' t have to stress over parking!
@breadandcircuses I mean I agree I ride my bike anytime I can. But also have 3 kids and live in a rainy climate.
@breadandcircuses
It wouldn’t be quite so bad if people were taught how to drive. Driver’s Ed doesn’t cut it anymore.
@breadandcircuses I'm not able to ride a bike, so I'm assuming you're happy to tow me where I need to go, behind yours?
@breadandcircuses This is particularly true of people in my socio-economic strata - well off white people. Basically we drive or fly everywhere and I’m considered odd for my insistence on using public transit every time I possibly can.
