@nixCraft
Been a user of Mozilla/Firefox for 20 years.
I will look for an alternative if LLM is infecting my browser.
@MMRnmd @nixCraft The alternative is just turning it off (or rather, leaving it off/not responding to the nag to turn it on in the official FF binary).
It's really harmful to the ecosystem that this is not explained clearly every time Mozilla does something stupid like this.
It ends up driving people to Chrome & Chrome reskins where, unlike with Firefox, you *can't* just turn-off/leave-off the misfeatures.
Seems like the ideal use of an addon/plugin. Build it if you want, and see if people are interested. The idea of ai is cooler than the reality. You get your answer, but if it really matters, you have to do it the right way anyway. You can't trust anything it gives you.
@svelmoe @nixCraft Umm, with Firefox or derivatives, UBO actually works. And all the other privacy settings like 1p-isolate, blocking sites from being able to snoop your clipboard, etc.
With Chrome (& basically all Chrome rebrandings/reskinnings), sites can and do basically whatever they want that's hostile to your interests.
@nixCraft The problem is that @mozillaofficial refuses to acknowledge that #Firefox and it's promise of #privacy and #openness is their "core #product" and that many people, including myself, will #divest and #boycott any #donations to them until they apologize and undo the harm they pushed with "#AI" / #LLM - based #Enshittification.
In fact, I hope #Firefox gets handed over to @torproject and #TorBrowser becomes the new #Upstream!
@nixCraft Dunno, I really like Firefox's local machine translation which uses LLM opposed to all the shit being sent to some fuck all remote server like everyone else is doing.
LLM's are fine when they are focused function like webpage translation oppossed to stupid chat bots.
@nixCraft you make the common mistake of assuming management ever cares about anything except their next promotion.
(well technically I realize you probably do know, and yes, this move will significantly hurt the product. 😁 but what I really mean is, you know they don't care one tiny bit, right?)
