It's really harmful to the ecosystem that this is not explained clearly every time Mozilla does something stupid like this.
It ends up driving people to Chrome & Chrome reskins where, unlike with Firefox, you *can't* just turn-off/leave-off the misfeatures.
lxskllrSeems like the ideal use of an addon/plugin. Build it if you want, and see if people are interested. The idea of ai is cooler than the reality. You get your answer, but if it really matters, you have to do it the right way anyway. You can't trust anything it gives you.

With Chrome (& basically all Chrome rebrandings/reskinnings), sites can and do basically whatever they want that's hostile to your interests.

- And if that means we'll have the same situation as with #OpenOffice, #Solaris and #ZFS, (where #Oracle basically "mobbed" #developers into #forking-off into @libreoffice, #illumos and @openzfs ), then so be it.

Someone else pointed out that you can disable the features, which is good enough for me, but switching to an entirely different browser would definitely send the right message to Mozilla.

x0@nixCraft I can think of two good uses for them, and entirely local at that, which they've already been doing. Machine translation and image description. As a *language* model, it might be really good at translation. Some of the big ones have proven to be, and I'm pretty sure firefox has already been shipping a translation model, so if they update the architecture to be better and do more languages locally? I'd use it. And as a blind person, I have to deal with the fact that firefox presents no feature for automatic image description, in fact I heard it was atempted and assholes shot it down in the issue comments. If I have to turn it on explicitly I don't mind, people who don't need it don't need the resource load and that's OK. Translation is optional, after all.
