Dutch murder rate may have fallen with 117 cases so far in 2024; Amsterdam total doubles

A total of 117 individuals were killed by violence in the Netherlands this year as of Monday afternoon, down from 125 for all of 2023, according to data collected by crime tracking website MoordAtlas. The provisional figures about cases of murder or manslaughter suggests that the national homicide rate has improved from roughly 0.70 violent deaths per 100,000 residents in 2023. Through mid-day on December 30, that rate was down to 0.65 based on the population figures from the start of the year.
