It’s incomprehensible to me that farmers can just decline to test their cows. I’m sure the pharmaceutical industry is mad they didn’t think of just declining to test their products before they put them on the market.

I’m so happy I gave up animal products finally, I’m absolutely disgusted that I consumed them during part of the timeline she talks about here. If I had ended up with the bird flu because of it, if I survived, I would’ve had to be a Luigi. There’s no way I could just calmly and quietly live with that level of assault on my body and not seek revenge. It would never happen.

Biden's USDA Let H5N1 Spread. Now Bird Flu is a Loaded Gun in Trump's Hands

The Biden Administration never had any plan to control the H5N1 outbreak on dairy farms; now, it's spreading widely in a country ill equipped to understand or control airborne disease.

Yes, there are so many benefits to not consuming animal products. We stopped in 2016 (vegetarian from 2012) and have gone from strength to strength. I have more now at 75 than I had at 55!
This article is scary. I subscribe and read it this morning.
@elliek it’s an excellent newsletter, you won’t regret subscribing. I’ve been trying to quit Animal products for my whole adult life, and I admit that I still use butter and cheese sometimes. And I had to give up cereal because it’s not the same with non-dairy milks, but I found a wonderful vegan half-and-half for coffee. And I don’t miss ice cream that much because it all got really gross, or really small and really expensive. So I didn’t really want to spend seven dollars on a pint anyway.
@maggiejk
The cruelty in the dairy industry was the clincher for us (and we used to have and milk our own cow, when we lived in France, no cruelty involved, apart from artificial insemination). Oh, and sending the make calves off to the slaughter. But giving up dairy was essential for us both, actually, as I have an auto immune disease and suffered inflammation. And then, knowing the link to cancer, it all added up to us finding better solutions. And, as a result, finding better health. I was seriously sick for 20 years. I wouldn't go back there for anything.
If you want any encouragement or recipes, let me know. I make n'icecream from frozen bananas.
I have a great recipe for a (not particularly healthy, but delicious) plant based creamy milk. I can share if you like.

@elliek oh yes that would be lovely especially because I end up freezing bananas often and I have a bit of a backlog because I only use them for smoothies.

Also where would you recommend using in place of eggs for baking? I made brownies with unsweetened applesauce and it was OK, and I know there are many different vegan substitutions for eggs in baking, but which one do you like best?

@maggiejk
I would use flax egg, probably. (Ground flax seeds and water, easy peasy.)

I have excellent recipes for brownies and carrot cake.
I'll share those if you're interested, but later, I'm about to go out for a walk.

As to the n'icecream, here's a link to my page showing how I make it. It really needs a good food processor.

I just shared the milk one, here

@elliek if that’s you and your profile picture you look gorgeous at whatever age that was taken at. I hope I age as beautifully.
