I've been using #Fedora40 #Kinoite on my #T480 for about a year. I think it would be a great distro for a work laptop!
It's nice to know if there is an update problem, you can just boot back to the previous update, but I haven't ever needed to do that.
Most apps you need are available on #Flathub. If you need to set up a dev environment, #Podman and #Toolbox work well!
On top of that, the #Fedora and #KDE communities are capable and friendly, so help is available.
@inaction_figure @pdq A couple of years ago iirc i created a #Kinoite VM in my #ArchLinux host, just to muck about with & keep an eye out. In it i created an #Arch #Distrobox, in which i installed #yay, with which i installed some #AUR pkgs. All that works fine, but there are papercuts i dislike & have not been able to overcome. One such is that so far i do not know how to have any such DB apps autostart with Kinoite itself.
Similarly, in Kinoite i've installed various #flatpak apps, one being #Yakuake. I've never managed to get it to obey my setting to show its icon in the System Tray, like is easily done in non-immutable Plasma distros.
Papercuts like these dissuade me from being able to think of #Kinoite, #Kalpa, #kdeLinux et al as serious future replacement Host distros on my hardware. However, i approach these matters as an unskilled hobbyist, not someone with deep Linux knowledge, so would appreciate relevant advice from those who actually know such stuff.
I donāt think thatās true. I used KDE Neon for several years before trying #Kinoite. #KdeNeon is at the cutting edge of KDE and Plasma, so there were occasional pain points. Kinoite is ājust behind cutting edgeā of Plasma, and I havenāt encountered any problems that kept me from using it. There ARE bugs, but they are rarely worth mentioning. Certainly no worse than Windows, and they get fixed much faster. I recommend Kinoite as a daily driver!
If you're a gamer, I'm a huge #Bazzite shill.
Or also Aurora

Is already done for you.
Install CLI programs with Brew out of the box.
Use Gear Lever to easily integrate and update appimg programs, when Flatpaks aren't available.
And Box Buddy to easily admin Distrobox containers, and export container programs to your system. šÆ
