We received Voyager 1! Not bad for a telescope from 1956 and a spacecraft from 1977 📡🛰️

Dwingeloo telescope receives signals from Voyager 1 – Dwingeloo Radio Telescope | CAMRAS

@radiotelescoop Classic tech, gemaakt om compatibel met elkaar te blijven :)

@heinragas "I love it when a non-obsolescence plan comes together."

@radiotelescoop

@heinragas En dan te bedenken dat de Dwingeloo telescoop gebouwd is voordat ruimtevaart bestond!

I am so jealous 😅

Back in 91, after NRC gave up, I was approached by a potential "science camp for teens" to resurrect Algonquin; the photos I saw looked like years of teen parties had been happening there anyway 🤣

I lined up some vintage gear other observatories were willing to dispose of our way, it looked good… but they didn't get their funding, and I moved on to a research assistant position at UofT.

For me, it would have been the perfect job! 🌳🌲🦌📡🐿️🌲🌳

@teledyn @radiotelescoop come by sometime, we're able to get pictures of JWST while it's taking pictures... which is as near an analog I can think of 😆
@teledyn With Algonquin, it would be possible to get the data bands as well!
@radiotelescoop when is Voyager 6 due to launch?
@radiotelescoop NASA houdt live bij hoe ver voyager is https://voyager.jpl.nasa.gov/ticker/hds/ 15 miljoen kilometer!Geweldig dat dit jullie gelukt is.
