As a former Senior System Administrator for the company that pioneered live streaming HD video on the web before YouTube existed and was serving static video content back before Google even existed, I can state that my personal opinion is: @[email protected] does a better job at serving video (and recovering from flakey network connections) in a libre/free open source federated (and peer-2-peer) manner than closed source proprietary alternatives ever did, already.

TikTok has been also named in the hybrid attack (that the supreme court of Romania found has happened) on Romania by Russia, which will make a rerun of the presidential election necessary.

So selling to an US owner might be problematic, because the EU will regulate TikTok.

Because exactly that ownership has been declared a concern for notational security in the USA.

It's selling or being banned in the USA.

In the EU it's strict regulation and moderation. And regular reports what they are doing to be responsive on that front.

(Personally I find it extraordinary that the supreme court of Romania found that Romania was under hybrid attack from Russia, such funding of fact is rather beyond the regular.)

@evacide At some point, I hope these repeated instances teach the IC that they have to start declassifying anything that's so bad we have to ban it.

The cynic in me responds: They still get the ban, and rich people get to steal a proven, profitable company, using the might of the US Gov to beat it out of them. Isn't that called "extortion" in the law?
