FDA Proposes Ending Use of Oral Phenylephrine as OTC Monograph Nasal Decongestant Active Ingredient After Extensive Review

FDA is proposing to end the use of oral phenylephrine for the temporary relief of nasal congestion because the agency determined it is not effective.

U.S. Food and Drug Administration

@macmanx Yeah, we all knew this stuff didn't work, because, you know, it didn't actually work.

It has never worked, for decades, and anybody who looked into it at all knew that you had to get the good meth material stuff.

Basically, for anybody in the know, this is information that was available decades ago. We all knew this.

@otto42 Problem is, the people behind it falsified their clinical trials.

After receiving what I assume is a truck load of complaints, the FDA started running their own trials and concluded last year that less than 1% of the swallowed dose makes it to the target area, IOW it does practically nothing. And, thanks to crippling bureaucracy, it took this long for them to finally issue the proposal to remove oral phenylephrine from the list of allowed active ingredients.
