My #apple laptop turns 10 years in about a month (it was actually built for more than 10 years ago). The OS has not been upgraded for a few years now, and I’m facing more and more often the wall “your OS is too old this app does not work on it” (lastly #onedrive which I need for school work).

Now I’m struggling between installing #linux on it and getting a new laptop.

1/2

#linux would mean my so far functioning important apps would not be available, namely #indoorTrainer app #systm by #wahoo

Getting a new laptop would mean I’d use both work and home laptops, which is sort of unnecessary.

2/2

@rpsu I have MX Linux running on my mid-2011 Macbook Air, and it's pretty good. There's even a theme, which makes the UI look like MacOS.

@rpsu I have no experience on this, but there's this, which claims to make it possible to run Mac apps on Linux

@lari Oh, interesting! I’ll take a look at this, but given the trainer app needs access to hardware (Bluetooth dongle) I have my doubts if it actually works.
@lari I think the main barrier here is the training app and #wahoo who does not consider #linux a valid platform for their app. “No one is using trainers with Linux” when they have never even tried to support it.
@lari @rpsu No problems with sound? Couldn't get it working on Ubuntu on my old Macbook Air.
@kallekn @rpsu I was prepared for problems, but didn't remember having any. Everything went surprisingly smoothly.
