I sneaked in a good-weather hike yesterday in the White #Mountains, #NewHampshire just before a wet front moved in. Trail conditions varied dramatically from trailhead to summit in my hike earlier this week in the White #Mountains: dirt and dry rocks (upper left); crusty #snow and patches of soft #ice (upper right); solid hard ice and need for traction (lower left); dirt, snow, ice, and some puddles of water on sun-exposed ridge trail (lower right). Happy #WaterfallWednesday! This beautiful #waterfall took on different "moods" as I passed it twice while #hiking out/back last month in the White #Mountains, #NewHampshire. This was the dark/quiet mood as it was in the shadows in this early morning pic. This was one of many beautiful water features on this trail (and the trail is appropriately named, "Falling Waters Trail"!). I spent a lot of time stopping and enjoying each feature both on the way up and back! 😀

The Whites! 😍
Photo in my header is somewhere along the Kancamagus Highway — a friend from Trenton, ME, used to drive down and I'd drive up (or we'd use the AMC shuttle — but that was complicated) so we could do long point-to-point hikes. A few times during winter, it probably would have been easier to go out and back rather than have to dig one of the cars out after snowfall 🙄 — but it was always great. I love the Whites!

@danmccullough Thanks, Dan! Yeah, the falls are facing the west and I love how they picked up the sunset on my return to the trailhead. I took pics of all falls both on the way up and also on the way back. The falls were dark and shadowy in the morning. So glad I took the time to take the pics on the way back!

Glad to see there's some water up there. Farther south is so dry. We did get rain for the last 1.5 days but I doubt much is making to the streams.

Thanks. I took this hike one day before the rain. There was water all the way up to the highest source of water on this trail at 3,100' (a tributary to Dry Brook). No lack of wetness on the steep rock slabs I hiked on either.
