NCHS estimates of #LongCovid—based on Household Pulse Survey.

Chart now reflects Long Covid rates in children equal to those in adults.

Lower "Living with" figure follows changed question format.

Census has yet to announce next round of data—HPS website hasn't been updated since July.

In Aug, summer FLiRT wave receded into S:F546L soup. Sept FLuQE wavelet matured into Oct MC wave. Now that #CDC has corrected Friday's public data, we see XEC—spawn of FLiRT KS.1.1 & FLuQE KP.3.3—poised to displace MC in November.

Meanwhile, FLiRT LB.1.3.1 has a new alias. We're in the second half of the alphabet.

Latest GISAID is sparse, so significance of MC.10 and LF.1.7 likely anomalous.

#CDC regional map is borked.

300-sequences threshold for reporting has been "two weeks ending 9/14" for six weeks now. In that time, regions meeting threshold went from 3 of 10, to 5, now to one.

Mantissa was dropped on bar chart two weeks ago.

KP.3.1.1 / MC holds a little more than half share in NY/NJ region; XEC is at quarter share.

Very sparse GISAID data for late October shows FluQE31 KP.3.1.1 / MC and children down to just over half of all sequences.

FLiRT KS.1.1 / FLuQE KP.3.3 hybrid XEC now near one in eight.

JN.1 FLiRT variants LB.1 & LF.*, and FDA's vaccine target KP.2, hang on—yet losing ground.

Per previous analysis, common mutations mean that LB.1 & KP.3 both closer to KP.2 than WHO vaccine target JN.1:

Food for thought: LB.1 was third of two-weeks old New York/New Jersey estimate; roughly one-in-five in neighboring Mid-Atlantic and New England. That said, LB.1 has two mutations in common with its fellow FLiRT variant, and second-guess vaccine target, KP.2, such that LB.1, like KP.3, is only two steps removed from KP.2. However, in a scenario where, as an example, a non-KP SLip lineage picked up S:Q493E, joining KP.3 as another FLuQE, then JN.1, not KP.2, would be the closer vaccine target.

Once again, have only had opportunity to add hundred or so lines to #AnnoPlot project since the last update:

https://hcommons.social/@beadsland/113218241027273518

In our post-data era, only variants #dataviz is still actively being updated.

Maintenance includes: cosmetic tweaks to bubbles and embossing; tweaks to label order, bundle logic, and legend families; debugging cluster and recombinants parent tracing; & general refactoring.

Unfortunately, ongoing fires in personal life means little time for #datavis programming.

Got new GISAID data yesterday, showing no significant variants not otherwise broken out by CDC.

#CDC regional map finally moves beyond reporting threshold for "two weeks ending 9/14". Only one region meets new, late Oct, threshold.

Mtn/Dakotas has XEC nearly at parity with KP.3.1.1 / MC, both at less than half share.

Given paucity of data reflected here, expect national Nowcast estimates for November to be revised significantly.

Have been only debug maintenance mode since our last update. No appreciable increase in #AnnoPlot line count:

https://hcommons.social/@beadsland/113456689508810628

In our post-data era, only variants #dataviz is still actively being updated.

Maintenance includes: managing GISAID data imports, further refining legend criteria, revisions & corrections to naming tables, & properly pinning subvariants of clusters to progenitor lineages.

Unfortunately, ongoing fires in personal life means little time for #datavis programming.
