How do people here feel about Bluesky? I am currently posting to both - largely because I am curious.

Bluesky didn't make 2 key mistakes that Mastodon makes

1. Bluesky web interface is very polished. Mastodon is still clunkly, after all those years.

2. The discovery feed in Bluesky is great - something that Mastodon has never really done, which severely hamper its attractiveness.

My sense is that at the current rate, Bluesky will be what Mastodon could have been.

Thoughts?

@marcelsalathe Today the eu president joined bluesky, she never joined the eu-bred #mastodon. If there was a race for twitter 2, its settled

Bluesky is former twitter folks, they had the know to produce something sleek and workable and they did. They also produced a lot of open source implementations that enrich this space. But they did not play nice with existing initiatives built on #activitypub (typical ego games between techies) which creates uncertainty around how things will evolve.

@marcelsalathe my guess is that a lot of people who put energy and hopes in making the #fediverse mainstream will be disappointed right now with the missed opportunity (others always wanted to keep this space niche anyway).

In the longer term the ecosystem around activitypub is theoretically better placed to become something really new and interesting (#linkedata, #semanticweb etc) but the fact is you need adoption, "killer apps", buzz and hype to attract attention and resources.
