"Trump’s demand for recess appointments is a way of breaking the Senate early on. Once they’ve bypassed the Constitutional dictate that they confirm the president’s appointees, there is no standing on principle to insist on strict adherence to the Constitution."

What Letting Trump Use Recess Appointments Could Mean

Donald Trump’s stated desire to use recess appointments is about more than putting his cabinet secretaries and other appointees in place without a fight.

Civil Discourse with Joyce Vance

"Let’s not make the mistake of thinking the only reason Trump wants to use recess appointments is to get his team of deplorables confirmed. He’s not even back in office, but he’s already at work manipulating elected officials into a position where the Constitution can be tossed aside at will."

"Kennedy has devoted his life to destroying public health. He’s obsessed with a confused, quasi-fascist idea of purity, which leads him to attack medical interventions like fluoride, pasteurization, and vaccines, as well as perceived outsiders like Asians and Jewish people. That makes him a good fit for Trump and Trumpism. It also makes him a massive danger to the US and to the world."

""Matt Gaetz, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Pete Hegseth, and Tulsi Gabbard are a wrecking crew. …

The nominations, taken as a whole, are enormously significant and newsworthy for what they say about what is to come. And that is too important a message to be lost in incremental coverage, weak language, and insufficient shorthand."

"One of the most frightening goals of Trumpism is that the world somehow needs to be destroyed and the people suffer great pain before the 'good' part comes to them in the name of a new order, in this case under Trump.:"

@wdlindsy AKA Christian doctrine.
@pdiff1 Perhaps the belief system of a certain subset of Christians who have enormous political power in the US but hardly represent the belief system of Christianity as a whole.
@wdlindsy An autocracy sells itself with messianic rhetoric. Religion is useful, because its adherents are predisposed to believe in the kind of magical solutions the leader proposes, as well as being highly tolerant of the inevitability of ultimate salvation not coming to pass.

@dblobaum See Holly Berkley Fletcher on that very point this morning:

A Zebra Without Stripes

@wdlindsy I like to define fascism in terms of how they polarize society:

Classic #fascism: define a nebulous group or institution, dehumanize and stoke with #fearmongering. No falsehood is perceived as ridiculous by a #truebeliever. Fears become hate. They have a “them” to hate, and bind “us” tightly together.

@wdlindsy This is like the Christian belief that the world needs to be destroyed before Jesus will come for the second time: "One of the most frightening goals of Trumpism is that the world somehow needs to be destroyed and the people suffer great pain before the “good” part comes to them in the name of a new order, in this case under Trump."
@wvlith Yes, some influential branches of Christianity — especially influential in the American context — have that strange apocalyptic idea and seem to welcome the thought of everything being destroyed to usher in the return of Christ.
@wdlindsy @wvlith this shit is extremely dangerous and needs to be shunned from society
