Ok, weather nerds: ‘bomb cyclone’, WTF?

First of all, I was taught that the difference between a cyclone and a hurricane was the direction they rotated, and that hurricanes happened in the northern hemisphere and cyclones in the southern hemisphere.

Also: ‘bomb’ cyclone? This is a term I’ve never heard before. Are we just making shit up now, like we started doing with super-moons?
