I tested Threads. In my experience, this is how Threads compares to Mastodon:

— The algorithm decides if your content is visible to others. Some content gets zero exposure for reasons which are not transparent.

— Sharing links to other platforms makes the algorithm suppress your content's visibility.

— Slower to use.

— Only one app allowed, and it does not support iPads and other tablets.

— Ads are coming in early 2025.

— You cannot run your own server.

— Your data is mined by Zuckerberg.

@randahl but Mastodon doesn't have an algorithm at all, and your post is visible mostly to your subscribers, so you can't get viral.
@BigCaddy @randahl In all honesty I consider that a good thing. I'd rather have twenty 'high quality' interactions than a big heap of ten thousand interactions of a 'low quality'.

...or not even real.

@clintruin @BigCaddy @randahl Yep, bots are all over the place. Less so on Mastodon because of the absence of an algorithm it takes more effort to boost content to a greater audience. Other platform with algorithm's make it easier to amplify posts due to the way the algorithm picks up on 'trending' topics and posts.
@clintruin @BigCaddy @randahl Making it easier for a bot farm to coordinate a campaign that will trick the algorithm resuling in non organic amplification.
