I tested Threads. In my experience, this is how Threads compares to Mastodon:

— The algorithm decides if your content is visible to others. Some content gets zero exposure for reasons which are not transparent.

— Sharing links to other platforms makes the algorithm suppress your content's visibility.

— Slower to use.

— Only one app allowed, and it does not support iPads and other tablets.

— Ads are coming in early 2025.

— You cannot run your own server.

— Your data is mined by Zuckerberg.

@randahl but Mastodon doesn't have an algorithm at all, and your post is visible mostly to your subscribers, so you can't get viral.
@BigCaddy @randahl I’ve had several posts that have received many hundreds of boosts, with the vast majority being from people that have no connection with me. People that follow me boost a post, then people that follow them (but not me) also boost it. And then you just have to hope that not too many reply guys show up. This happened to me once on Twitter, but several times here.
