UN climate talks 'no longer fit for purpose' say key experts

The United Nations' COP climate talks are "no longer fit for purpose" and need an urgent overhaul, key experts including a former UN secretary general and former UN #climate chief have said.

In a letter to the UN, senior figures say countries should not host the talks if they don’t support the phase out of fossil energy.

This week the Azerbaijani president told world leaders gathered in his country for #COP29 that natural gas was a “gift from God” and he shouldn’t be blamed for bringing it to market.

I haven't checked the graph in detail, just a brief look, but, as a graph, it looks about right. The dates of the COPs have been superimposed on the Mauna Loa CO2 concentration measurements, I presume accurately.

The really odd thing is seeing the GWPF logo on it.

Where did you find it? I'm intrigued.

@RichardAshwell @jmcrookston Can't remember from where i saved it, definitely not from the gwpf site since i don't know who they are. (? Just googled them.) Most likely it's from a post here at fediverse(?). In case of climate most info i get is following links posted here.
As long as the datas are correct and their original source are reliable i "don't care" what logo is added.
Everything is so complicated. Are they usually a climate denier source and desinformation spreader or what?

Well the data might be correct and maybe they were misrepresenting that the climate talks don't do anything. Because hey look the graph is still headed up to the right. Something like that.

But here we are. 😒

And now those talks are even hosted by the fossil(fuel)industry, not only sponsored.🤨
The COPs are only greenwashing PR in the current set up aka not binding govs to start ANY action/policies.
