A sneak peek from my upcoming book 🫣 would you read it?
@nixCraft Huh. The future of Unix books might -- MIGHT -- be in good hands. Keep going!
@nixCraft I can't tell if this is sarcasm or gate-keepy. LOL
@gardiner_bryant sarcastic post
@nixCraft @gardiner_bryant ...as my sig on /. used to say:
"Sufficiently advanced satire is indistinguishable from reality."
(forgot whom I stole it from, though).
@nixCraft I use vim all the time and have done for years but I literally just know how to insert, save and exit. Oh and search for text. Nothing else 🤷‍♂️🙂
@nixCraft recently been using micro instead of nano in a lot of cases
@nixCraft
Wine + Notepad.exe FTW
@remulus @nixCraft WinSCP (as root to access the file) and Wordpad (to edit).

@nixCraft I feel attacked.

Long live nano.

@avoidthehack @nixCraft I wished I learned Nano first. I find no joy in Vim except :q!

@vegetarianzombie I am a filthy nano user for life. The only time I've used/will use Vim is to rescue a cloud server via console.

I still have to look up the keyboard commands because I just don't use it. I am not ashamed.

@nixCraft nah, it looks like you asked ChatGPT to generate Vim and Emacs slander. (I'm fine with *Vim slander)
@nixCraft Who in the seven hells is using nano for programming 😂

@nixCraft

See, I'm noting that you completely avoid ed/sed, so I'm having a difficult time taking you seriously. I probably wouldn't buy your book.

Sorry, not sorry.

@h3net @nixCraft I don't think the Linux community needs more elitism in the realm of text editors
@nixCraft mcedit for the win!11!!!!
@nixCraft

I still remember (mid-1990s) having to fix unbootable systems because n00b-SAs had used
pico to edit critical config files and pico had "helpfully" injected line-breaks any time a config file's line was longer than the screen-width. Was especially fun because, at the time, vi often wasn't available in emergency-mode and you had to use ex to fix things.
@[email protected] lol, vim?

I mostly use neovim. I had to teach myself Lua to configure it the way I like. Adding a new language to your arsenal is a major win.
@nixCraft No, that's patronising as fuck. Sometimes you want a quick editor, not the stupid modal crap of vi and not the lisp of emacs and certainly not some dos-level one line crap.

@nixCraft Nobody yet? Then I have to do it:
