@davidaugust The American intelligence assets are now at significant risk.

What won’t Trump sell out.

@RichardNairn yes they are. I saw someone pointing out online last week that they hope all western assets in place are making their moves west to survive.
@davidaugust Waiting for her "Republican colleagues with a backbone" to speak out. Not holding my breath though. Given a choice between "defending American interests by defying Il Douche" and "not irritating the Dear Leader." I expect Congressional Republicans will choose the latter as usual.

@charvaka yes. But here’s the thing. The people in Congress are there partly because they sought out power for themselves. They may not be so eager to give up that power.

They may think capitulating to 45 is the path to power, but some may be self-serving enough to push back at the stripping of their power.

@davidaugust That would be a good thing. But I heard that Thune already agreed to Trump's ask about recess appointments. If the Senate Majority Leader is really willing to give up the Senate's advice and consent power just so he can become majority leader, I don't know where that ends without turning Congress into a rubber stamp like the legislatures in Hungary and India have become.

@anubis2814 @charvaka it sounds like Thune is open to recess appointments but not set on them yet. https://www.argusleader.com/story/news/politics/elections/2024/11/13/south-dakota-senator-john-thune-says-recess-appointments-still-an-option-for-trump-cabinet/76265376007/

We can, by contacting our Senators and Representatives demand the full advising and consenting of appointments (and yes, Representatives can add pressure to the Senate to not do recess appointments).

Thune: Democrat cooperation needed to avoid recess appointments for Trump Cabinet members

"I'm willing to grind through it and do it the old-fashioned way," Thune told reporters regarding confirmation hearings for Trump's cabinet members.
