Bumped into a friend and we've been texting each other for the past week with neither of us receiving the other's messages. She's on iPhone and I'm on Android. We both pay our bills...so...is it OUR FUCKING JOB to figure out why we can't talk to each other anymore?

@brianvastag

iPhones force iMessage service.
They are adopting RCS this year.
There may be a setting on pre 2024 iPhones.

Why? Because literally apple said 'f*ck you'.

When Apple' head muppet was asked why Grandma can't use SMS, he said 'Grandma can buy iPhone'

@brianvastag You probably need to go into the Settings app and find the Messages settings. Make sure “Send as SMS” is enabled as well as “MMS Messaging” and “Group Messaging”.

I don’t recall if these are on by default. If not, I don’t know why not.

@btschumy It worked last week. Why does stuff suddenly stop working? I'm not interested in troubleshooting. I just want the services I pay for to work. Which I guess is an unrealistic expectation.

@brianvastag Yeah, it’s frustrating. Everything has gotten too complex and not even the engineers fully understand all the interactions.

With weird problems like this, both of you should reboot your phones.
