I still have a Twitter account, and I'm planning to take it down because of Musk.
If you still have one (even if it's inactive), it would be a powerful statement if many of us leave on Monday, 20 January, when the platform becomes part of the Trump government.

If you don't like Twitter's new Terms of Service, which state that all your tweets can be used for AI training as from 15 November, you could of course already (archive and) delete all your old tweets now.
That's: (...) - Settings - Your account - Download an archive of your data.
@Sustainable2050 I used https://github.com/Lyfhael/DeleteTweets yesterday and it worked like a charm.

@Sustainable2050 I am worried about the moster twitter has become.
@Sustainable2050 Twitter does not want me to do this. scary.
@Sustainable2050 and encourage all our followers to join us on mastodon.
@Sustainable2050 I don't have an account there anymore but good idea!

@Sustainable2050 Did you also post this on Twitter?

I've left my main account dormant I guess at least one and a half year ago.

The BBC and most DW linked accounts are still active on Twitter, and I had an occasional look at these via my original account, but that's last been weeks ago.
Probably won't check again. Shame to lose the contacts, but life will go on.

Was planning to just leave the accounts dormant.

@AngelaScholder yes, I did. I think it's more powerful if we leave with a bang ;)

@Sustainable2050 I guess that unfortunately it will not even be noticed as a ripple.

Remember where most of the energy nerds still are, after having a quick look at Mastodon some two years ago and without any further look declare Mastodon too difficult.

@AngelaScholder now is a perfect time to suggest they give it anoher try. loads of usability ugrades over the past two years.
@Sustainable2050 je had ermee moeten kappen toen Musk het overnam, maar beter laat dan nooit.

@Sustainable2050 I'll leave before Friday. New TOS makes tweets available for AI training by then, unwanted.

(Although one could argue that leftwing political statements would be a good source for training purposes... 🫣)

@Sustainable2050
I did it, i don‘t miss it
@Sustainable2050 The sooner you leave the better. Nothing will change over that bang.

@Sustainable2050

sorry, I'll have to remove all my tweets as soon as possible: their change of TOS makes it impossible to stay, I don't want to give any content to their AI bullshit ;)

In fact, you may want to remove your tweets right now, maybe by using this tool https://github.com/lucahammer/tweetXer
(I used it today, worked like a charm <3 )

and I like the idea that we can all delete for good our (now empty) account on Jan 20th

@Sustainable2050 I’m long gone there. And I will never ever return. I hope many join you though.
@Sustainable2050 TOS lets him scrape your posts for AI as of Friday. I’d move your date up.

@Sustainable2050 Why wait.

Their policy states that they will use your tweet history to train their AI, starting from November 15th.

Do it now. Ask for a backup of your account, which will take AT LEAST 24h to be mailed to you.
Then deactivate your account. Stay away from it for 30 days of inactivity (do not log in) for it to get deleted.

Act fast, act now. Don't wait until January.

You could wait. Hope the platform will be taken over. But why bother. That ship has sailed. It is a Nazi bar.
And Nazis will take over everything and abuse your data for their nefarious gains and goals. Laws mean nothing to them as they can buy off judges. Laws in a oligarchy are meant to keep *you* under control.

@Sustainable2050 Too late for me - I already closed it 2 years ago !
@Sustainable2050 Why wait. Deleted mine today.
@Sustainable2050 Sounds like a good plan. I'm in.
@Sustainable2050 Just as a reminder. Once you change your username/deactivate a username/account; the username on twitter becomes available for anyone to use again. This happened to my old "iyeru" twitter username, when I changed to coldreactive on the platform. That was years before musk was even considering buying twitter.
@Sustainable2050 the right time was the day he took over. The next right time was every day since. It’s not gonna mean a pimple to him on his coronation good lord.
@Sustainable2050 I had a dormant Twitter/X account which I deactivated yesterday
@Sustainable2050 NIce idea. I've put it in the diary as I was thinking of doing the same but hadn't really thought of the date.
Something for @helenczerski @timwaterman @jamespjh to think about. #Twexit
@Sustainable2050 All fo that said, you wonder about the relationship between the X and Truth (sic) platforms. What happens to the latter on January 20th? #Twexit
@sellathechemist I think Truth is Trump's whitewashing machine for foreign donations (pump up the value of DJT stock, so he can profit from that). Unless X goes public, that would remain in place, I guess.
@Sustainable2050 The intersting question is whether he can force government agencies to adopt it as one of their channels. That would grant it greater legitimacy and help pump up the DJT ticker. But at what point might it come into conflict with X? Given the history of Trump's relations with his political associates, it's only a matter of time before friction starts and the conflicts of interests could become bones of contention.
@Sustainable2050 my old account would probably be hijacked by trolls abusing it. I can also leave it semi dormant, right?
