All the discussions I had with colleagues back then can be summed up to the following argument in favour of touch screens:" You can update the UI post market release". I was never satisfied with that "fix it later" approach. It is an invitation to lazy design practices driven by tech hype.
Unless a touch screen feels, behaves and looks like a button it is always the worse than a physical button.
