I've been noticing many white women on Fedi really going hard on blaming Muslims for Harris losing, instead of looking at the majority of white women (53%) who voted for Trump and white men (59%). Which is a fairly small gap between the two, proving (again) that Whiteness regardless of gender is what caused this continuing mess that is called the USA pretty much since its founding.

I guess Islamophobia is easier than confronting your white peers.

Coalition-building is going to be difficult if us white people refuse to look in the mirror and refuse to confront people who look like us. What is evident to everyone else is we can't be trusted.

Edit: yes, this includes "good" white people. Actions speak, deflecting blame and punching down is a purposefully chosen action.

@jf_718 literally at a point where I will never trust any of you again.
@ErickaSimone Can't blame you. We are what we do and what most of us white people do harms everyone else (especially black women).

@ErickaSimone @jf_718 I feel the same about my own white women. Disgusting.

I promise forever forward to continue BEING an ally, showing up, and fighting to elevate voices that need the support. šŸ™šŸ½ And look fellow white women in the eye and stand the F up.

@jf_718 a lot of ā€˜don’t these people know what will happen to them’ thing, almost a belief that all immigrants should be progressive, is also rooted in the unrealistic expectation that other cultures don’t have our shitty conservatives

We totally do, and social conservatism is choosing each other globally right now

@skinnylatte Thank you for sharing. Living in this part of Queens for a couple of decades has made me very well aware of the high percentage of conservative immigrants (mostly east Asians around here). Election results reflected that.
@skinnylatte @jf_718 that explains the "Latinos for Trump" thing somewhat, but I think primarily it was a class thing--Latinx voters (US citizens) are much richer (and whiter) than Latinx non-voters in the US, especially undocumented people. Whereas I don't think there were many Arabs who voted for Trump at all. The people blaming Arabs for Trump's victory are blaming them for speaking out against the genocide in Palestine, which is just absurdly evil. (Saying this as a white Latina)
@jf_718 Women of all demographics voted overwhelmingly for Harris EXCEPT for white women.
@MisuseCase @jf_718 racism is insane.

@ErickaSimone @MisuseCase @jf_718 I keep thinking about history that tells of white women who were in so many cases more vicious toward "their" slaves than their enslaver husbands were.

I have spent most of my life believing that at least *some* of that had changed, but apparently I've been naive and ignorant.

@courtcan @MisuseCase @jf_718 White women with capital would buy male slaves to rape them. Well documented that most white women with money forced Black slaves into sex work as the men did too.

They know who they are.

@ErickaSimone @MisuseCase @jf_718 That is beyond horrific. Turns my stomach -- but if we (white woman) don't fight through the nausea and talk about these things, nothing is ever going to fucking change!

Dear White Women:

We absolutely MUST change. We MUST face the horrors of the past AND the present, and we MUST sit with the discomfort of it all and let it transform us.

And please don't #NotAllWhiteWomen me. I voted with joy for Kamala Harris, but at this point that doesn't matter. I still have work to do. WE still have work to do.

Teaching our daughters truth. Modeling empathy & courage. Building community with people who don't look like us.

(@ErickaSimone @MisuseCase @jf_718 )

Probably most of all, our work is to call out and speak against racism and microaggressions when we see them. And if we're not seeing them, our work is to learn to identify them.

And to consider carefully when we ourselves might be the source of them.

DO THE WORK, PEOPLE. 🤘

How White Women Doomed Kamala Harris and the Democrats—Again

Early exit polls reveal a stunning race gap in how people voted in the 2024 presidential election.

The New Republic
@jf_718 white people did this. Some non white people may have helped but it’s white people.
@jf_718 blaming others for what people sitting out the election gains us nothing.
@jf_718 who stayed home? In 2020 Biden got 81 million votes. Harris got 70 million. Trump got about the same both times. The problem isn’t who voted, it’s who didn’t.
