everyone around me is getting Bambu 3D printers like they're going out of style and yet I'm still sitting here having never owned *any* 3D printer and I feel like I'm missing out on the peak of a hype train I should have bought into years ago and am now regretting not doing so

this all fueled by finding out that I have like
5 rather dense things I need to print of one model and 6 other models I need to print one of each and have them do battle for efficiency

I need to print five 6th gen AirPort Extreme wall mounts for my parents' house, a wall mount for a 5th gen for their garage, and unrelated, a bunch of competing fan mounts to try and cool down the RDRAM in the Dell. some are better-looking than others, but I need to get their temps down.

Not only for their longevity plus the longevity of nearby capacitors, but also the fact RDRAM puts "devices" (the chips) on snooze to manage thermals which also causes slower access time, if I recall.

the mounts are not an immediate issue and I can wait for Christmas for that, but the fan thing is a definite necessity.

Either that or I'll need to get my hands on a ready-made thing, which I'm not all too happy about having seen the going prices on what already exists.

@Sun_Ultra10 fan shrouds are also among the first things I would print if I bought a 3D printer

@Sun_Ultra10 I bought a bambu because I do have some stuff to print as well, but haven't gotten to set it up yet since the trash computer I was planning to hook it up to doesn't boot anymore 😎

who could have foreseen that keeping an old hp tower in a 90% humidity cave would affect its functionality??

@Difegue yet another omen that I should go and yank the Extremes from the basement and pop them open to make sure they're doing okay, they've been running 24/7 down there for 3 years.

might go and do that now that I have a spare to shove in for the moment if needed.

@Sun_Ultra10 I think stuff that's running 24/7 should be relatively safe from moisture since it's going to remain ventilated at all times - I don't worry too much about my dell poweredge that's in that same cave.

(although I did entomb it in a plastic sheet so that it kinda has its own "dryer" airspace from the rest of the room)

Still worth having a look every now and then tho!

@Difegue oh no not from moisture ingress but dust and cobweb buildup.

I did go yank them and dusted them out. barely anything came out of them, except small amounts of dust and cobwebs.

@Sun_Ultra10 I've had a bunch of 3D printers but I really like my Bambu because it works and the prints are roughly the size the software says they should be, which hasn't been my experience with others.
@indigoparadox that's the general vibe I've been getting from everyone.
@Sun_Ultra10 as someone who recently bought a Bambu A1, it’s been very useful tbh

@Sun_Ultra10 Honestly you are kinda in prime time for buying a 3D printer you haven't missed the train at all.

As someone who had multiple 3D printers throughout history my Bamu X1 Carbon took sooooo much fight and waiting out of the hobby for me that I find myself printing much more.

My old printers, I had a makerbot and then a MK3S great printers but they were always an uphill battle I had to watch carefully and hope they completed the job.

Contrast that to X1C I started a print job the morning of a road trip, never even watched it complete the first layer and a part fell over and failed. I isolated that part using the app on my phone and let it finish the rest. After that I had a family member that knew nothing about the printer clean off the plate, threw it back in and restarted the failed part.

@Sun_Ultra10 I have a Prusa XL, feel free to contact me via every means I know you have if you want something printed πŸ˜‰. I just printed a bracket for an Anker USB charger to go under a shelve we are going to use for charging.
