[EDIT: answer has been found, thanks! No need to boost further! Mastodon rocks!]

Can you please boost this question so I can reach a wider audience?

Does anyone out there have a paperback copy of "The Second O of Sorrow" by Sean Thomas Dougherty?

I need to know the number of the page that the poem "Why Bother?" is on.

Thanks in advance!

@bodhipaksa maybe tag with book hashtag?

@DrSuzanne Can't do any harm, eh?

I'd order the book but it wouldn't arrive in time.

@bodhipaksa I bet you'll someone who can help you out.
@DrSuzanne I hope so. None of my local bookshops has it in stock, and neither does my local library. There are lots of photographs of that page online, but none show the page number.
@bodhipaksa If it's a fairly popular quote/poem there might be citations out there already. You could search that to see what you find.
@DrSuzanne I searched on Google Books and found several places it had been cited, but none of them included the page number, unfortunately.
@bodhipaksa Shoot! All this technology, and you just need a page number.
@bodhipaksa hello, I recommend calling or emailing a library that has this book in their collection. A reference librarian can probably look this up for you. I see from your profile that you are in NH, and it looks like Keene State College has this book of poems in their collection: https://ksclib.keene.edu/record=b2693650~S9
I hope this helps!

@birdoneday UNH library is not too far from here. I could drive over and look up the book myself, assuming it's not out on loan. (It's just a matter of fitting that into a tight schedule.) I wouldn't want to take up a librarian's time by asking them to go to the stacks for me.
@bodhipaksa Okay! Just wanted to point it out as an option in case you hadn't thought of it. Good luck!
@bodhipaksa @birdoneday The librarians I know work in libraries because they want to help people find stuff.
@leeolds @bodhipaksa yeah, I will just say, too, as a former library worker, this would be a pretty fun request. Especially if it's sent via email, this should not be too difficult to answer unless the title is in really far off offsite storage. Plus, it's always good for a library to be able to show that people are using its services and that includes reference questions like this!
@birdoneday @leeolds @bodhipaksa As a librarian, seconding. Like Faith said, fun request, really not a big ask (catalog says it's currently in tech services, so maybe being repaired?), AND it adds stats libraries can use to continue advocating for its needs/even existence.

@leeolds @birdoneday I'm sure they're all lovely folk and enjoy helping people! I still feel reticent to make that request, though!

If I do have to go into the library myself (as opposed to someone telling me the answer) at least I can get a membership card, which would be potentially useful in many ways. So it would be worth the trip.

Why Bother” by Sean Thomas Dougherty

Because right now there is someone

Out there with

a wound in the exact shape

of your words.

“Why Bother” by Sean Thomas Dougherty from The Second O of Sorrow (BOA Editions Ltd. 2018).

The Second O of Sorrow

Sean Thomas Dougherty celebrates the struggles, the dignity, and the joys of working-class life in the Rust Belt. Finding delight in everyday moments—a night at a packed karaoke bar, a father and daughter planting a garden, a biography of LeBron James as a metaphor for Ohio—these poems take pride in the people who survive despite all odds, who keep going without any concern for glory, fighting with wit and grace for justice, for joy, every god damned day.

@isol I think that's from the ebook.
@bodhipaksa ooh editing a post is a nice way to send such "it worked" updates :)
@sybren Yeah, you're not relying on new people scrolling down a thread to discover the answer's been found, and people who have previously commented (and boosted?) get a notification. Again, Mastodon rocks!

@bodhipaksa

I still boosted anyway to demonstrate your point.

@SpaceLifeForm thank you. The response was magnificent.

@bodhipaksa

There is likely one or more that know the answer to your question, but they have to see the question in the first place.

There are many elephants here.
