Listening to arguments in the #indigo11 case about the discovery process, specifically regarding the conversations between Demkiw and Reisman that led up to the no-knock warrants, kicking in doors (including one WRONG one) at 4:30 in the morning in a matter, as defence just articulated, "caused a billionaire minor inconvenience."

Edit: This is in relation to a potential Abuse of Process motion, and the Will Say.

Back from lunch.
Defence is requesting additional disclosure as what they have been given in no way explains the motivation for pursuing the hate motivated aspect of the charges.

The police do not want to disclose discussions with Heather Reisman that led to the "upgrade" in tactics, both in the form of the no-knock warrants and the "hate-motivated" strategy.

If this was, indeed, NOT an abuse of process and a rich person calling in a favour, shouldn't they be willing to disclose?

(Also: love this legal team! ❀️🧑
They're fucking brilliant, amazing peeps!)

#ProtestLaw

Defence is additionally requesting ALL materials related to the Hate Crimes Unit assuming lead in investigations (criminal and not) related to the "current conflict in the Middle East" to better understand the motivation to classify postering and throwing washable paint at a building as "hate motivated".

They are invoking the Charter to scrutinize the police stance on activists, particularly those in support of Palestine, and all the actions thereafter.

And I have to quit listening to head to a second, more intimate session with Francesca Albanese in an undisclosed location.

Hoping to hear how it went later.

Who invited Barry?
Francesca gives great hugs!
Be jealous! πŸ˜†
Rather than a land acknowledgement, Francesca is discussing settler-colonialist projects, here, in Palestine, and beyond.

She is discussing the horrors of settler-colonialism:

The massacres. The torture. Imprisonment. Isolation. Punishing solidarity.

And always, the blame.
Indigenous peoples are blamed for their own genocides.

We brought it back to:

You cannot stand in solidarity with the struggle in Palestine without standing up for dismantling the apartheid system RIGHT HERE.

IT IS THE SAME STRUGGLE.

Settler-colonialism is settler-colonialism.

Genocide is genocide.

And this is why I am shuffling my Saturday around to meet with her again to get a copy of Tyler Shipley's book: Canada In The World: Settler Capitalism and the Colonial Imagination

Canada In The World: Settler Capitalism and the Colonial Imagination

An accessible and empirically rich introduction to Canada’s engagements in the world since confederation, this introductory textbook charts a unique path by locating Canada’s colonial foundations at the heart of the analysis
