Love these pencil bollards near Cogan Primary School

@llannerch Saw a photo of something similar recently from over the border. So cool! Would love to see some more of these in #Cardiff #Caerdydd.

@DrEdBridges all it needs is a little bit of imagination and creativity
@DrEdBridges @llannerch This example is in Dublin - they have become a very popular feature here in recent years thanks to the Safe Routes To School programme https://saferoutestoschool.ie/

What next?

Blackboard dusters as benches?

@llannerch @DrEdBridges What's a blackboard duster?, the kids ask... 😏
@ccferrie @DrEdBridges an ipad shaped bench doesn't have the same nostalgia value!
@llannerch @DrEdBridges
Could do with some of these near our village school.
When the school puts out warning boards, people park elsewhere- there are plenty of nearby places where it’s ok - but as soon as the school stops putting the boards out, parents (who obviously dont care that they are putting children in danger on a busy road) start parking on the yellow keep clear signs again.
A few random parking fines would help to get the message out, too.
@SurrealSeal Yeah, similar scenes here at my kids' inner-city primary in Cardiff. Blows my mind that OTHER PARENTS will park dangerously by THEIR OWN KIDS' SCHOOL. Strong sense of "my kids shouldn't have to walk for than 20s away to my Range Rover, so bugger what it means for the rest of you..."

@DrEdBridges

It sets a bad example too, showing their children that it’s ok to ignore rules/laws that inconvenience them.
Sometimes I go down our drive & take photos of the cars - & tell the parents that saying “I’m only going to be here for a few minutes” will not excuse them if a child is injured. But they don’t care about anyone else.

@SurrealSeal @DrEdBridges I don't disagree, but I also think simply waking up 15 mins earlier would give people the time they need to make such journeys without a car
@SurrealSeal @DrEdBridges spotted this morning at football. I'm developing an obsession!
