I've had this #cartoon in my files for decades. It's no longer a cartoon but the reality many Americans voted for.

@KeithDJohnson and “Don’t tell us anything but lies!!”

@KeithDJohnson

That's the Democratic Party platform too, though.

@violetmadder @KeithDJohnson

Also, more than half of Americans who could have voted DID NOT VOTE. So, more like 23% of the potential electorate went for Trumpster.

@KeithDJohnson I cannot believe America is still this stupid. As one who lives here...

I thought the first term taught us a lesson. Guess not...

Actually its not the american people who have spoken, its the "CULT" that has spoken.

I very much hope all those idiot "uncommitted people" who didn't vote to protest the genocide regret choosing to do so now. They will get much worse than what Biden did now, times a thousand!

I also think they deserve to suffer if they caused this oaf to get back in power. They to me are as complicit as the trump maga people.

Like WTF makes anyone think he is worth anything more than a person to listen to for the sake of laughing at their stupidity.

That's all he is good for, entertainment.

*sigh*

@KeithDJohnson or is it we are unhappy and the government is to blame
@KeithDJohnson
Wow -- just wow. I'll be showing that to friends here in Europe. Thanks for sharing.

@KeithDJohnson don't forget about the part where the new administration is going to remove all the investor protections put into place after the 1929 crash by allowing companies to issue unregulated crypto tokens instead of shares of stock that are regulated by the #SEC.

(this is absolutely going to happen btw... crypto industry was responsible for ~50% of all corporate money in the election)

@cryptadamist @KeithDJohnson
Wouldn't it be easier to just get rid of the SEC?
@FritzAdalis @KeithDJohnson not really. you'd have to repeal 90 year old legislation and almost a century of jurisprudence that literally everyone agrees is the reason the american stock market is the envy of the world. much better to do just do an end run around all that and start fresh with "caveat emptor" and then when the inevitable massive fraud and ensuing financial disaster come just pretend you thought that couldn't happen because you'd been shielded from fraud for 90 years by the original law.
@cryptadamist @KeithDJohnson
I dunno, you could have said the same about the US banking industry, and they still killed Glass-Steagall, to similar effect.

@FritzAdalis @KeithDJohnson you're not wrong (though the cause and effect from glass-steagall to 2008 isn't as direct as many believe). in this case though the entrenched crypto interests would of course like to write their own laws and capture their regulators (i mean that's what they just paid for with the election spend), so easier to just make new crypto rules.

I'm re-upping this once more because I think this is the first election cycle where we've finally crossed over into the form of government that Citizens United wrought. Every single candidate who got TV ads from the crypto lobby won their election. https://t.co/LwZY7jDKue

50%? Do you have a source for that?

I would laugh at the entire crypto pyramid scheme *ahem* industry if not for the massive environmental cost.

@firebreathingduck @KeithDJohnson 48% of corporate money as of late august. not sure where it came in by the end.

Crypto is dominating corporate election spending

The industry accounts for 48% of all the corporate money flowing to PACs so far in 2024, according to Public Citizen.

> I would laugh at the entire crypto pyramid scheme *ahem* industry if not for the massive environmental cost.

probably time to stop laughing. republican senators are already drafting legislation to build a "strategic bitcoin reserve" i.e. "transfer hundreds of billions of taxpayer dollars directly into the hands of crypto bros".

https://cryptobriefing.com/bitcoin-reserve-asset-following-trump/

and that's before you even start worrying about the fact that some of them (most of them, actually) want to default on the debt and crash the dollar so as to make bitcoin the world's new USD. this has been peter thiel's stated plan for most of a decade. the only one who's not totally on board w/it appears to be elon, who i'm not sure i want to trust with the global financial system.

US Senator Lummis reaffirms Bitcoin will be become a national reserve asset following Trump's victory

Senator Lummis proposes Bitcoin as a national reserve asset with new legislation, supported by Trump's presidency and industry leaders.

Crypto Briefing

@cryptadamist @KeithDJohnson

I misunderstood the earlier statement to mean that crypto was half of all election spending for the 2024 election. The total of all election spending is estimated to be $15.9 billion: https://www.opensecrets.org/news/2024/10/total-2024-election-spending-projected-to-exceed-previous-record/

Your other points still stand. If they switch US currency to Bitcoin, the economy will implode.

@firebreathingduck @KeithDJohnson don't quote me but i think there are some cases where opensecrets double counts spend which is why molly white set up followthecrypto.org, but even if they do it's still only a 10-20% overestimate.

@firebreathingduck @KeithDJohnson

> If they switch US currency to Bitcoin, the economy will implode.

fwiw the plan i've heard them talk about works the other way: default on the debt and/or hyperinflate the dollar -> implode the economy -> the world will have no choice but to switch to bitcoin

@cryptadamist @KeithDJohnson

As far as I understand it, Bitcoin has a current transaction throughput limit of 7/second.

Visa processes 24,000 transactions per second.

How far would they get into their Bitcoin transition before someone said, "Wait, I ordered a pizza and they told me the payment is expected to clear in March, 2315!"

@firebreathingduck @cryptadamist @KeithDJohnson
The goal of Trump's backers is to bring down the USA so obviously they are going to start on trashing the economy as soon as they are able.
@cryptadamist @firebreathingduck @KeithDJohnson I will be damned before I pay federal taxes to have them invested in bitcoin.
I'd rather have my state hold all federal taxes in an escrow account, for the next non-insane administration to use.

@jab01701mid @firebreathingduck @KeithDJohnson republicans control all three houses so you might not have a choice.

@KeithDJohnson
But is it really the reality Americans voted for?

Looks like only a minority of Americans voted for it.

About 15 million more Americans didn't vote than elected this government.

@laurelrusswurm @KeithDJohnson seems most people want nobody

(maybe they should have just left the post vacant)

"If you choose not to decide
You still have made a choice"
— Rush, *Freewill*

@laurelrusswurm @KeithDJohnson

The 245 Million number is imaginary.

The highest turnout the U.S. ever had was in 2020 (158M). That same year was when the turnout % was greatest in 60 years.

The % turnout has always hovered between 50 and 60 percent.

So you could say that *every* election is decided by a minority.

@number6 @KeithDJohnson

Just because 87,192,673 of your fellow American eligible voters don't vote doesn't mean they are imaginary.

Disgusted, dismayed, disfranchised, perhaps, but not imaginary.

@number6 @KeithDJohnson

The fact that every election is decided by a minority demonstrates that your voting system has not, and can not secure "government by the people, for the people."

Which is, of course, the way #DefendersOfTheStatusQuo like it.

@KeithDJohnson I think it was closer to three quarters of the population who didn't vote for him.
@KeithDJohnson be honest, is this what you think a lot of Trump voter explicitly wants or think they voted for?

@pettter @KeithDJohnson This is literally what they voted for.

And for a surprising number of them, it's actually part of their ideology or the logical conclusion of their ideology, Capitalism. Which trumps little irritating things like human rights, democracy, the rule of law, you know all the stuff that I learned makes a Western industrialized country.

After understanding that, it's trivial. The Turkeys literally understand it's their fate to be Christmas Dinner.

@KeithDJohnson yes, Kamala lost so we are going to be okay since none of that happened in 2016-2020. Also, funny, lumber is a renewable resource and the main reason Cali has massive forest fires every year. But, you seem like a smart person. Can't call you a man
