Not getting a lot of focus (tho it is getting some) is that Trump's election spells the end of any attempt by the US to mitigate global warming, for the foreseeable future.

Which pretty much means we can anticipate having to deal with the worst likely scenarios. As I've said before, my own previous pessimism wasn't pessimistic enough to encompass what we're looking at, & in the US we will not be able to count on any help from our government.

My pessimism on this is predicated on the simple truth that the Trumpist ideology is aggressively opposed to any climate change mitigation. Trumpists will treat anything that can be construed as such as blasphemy, & persecute accordingly.

My fear is that it's going to be bad enough that the only way we get any mitigation is to rationalize it in some other way. E.g. solar power will be great because we can't get new generation capacity online fast enough to power LLM server farms.

Nuclear power will boom, OTOH, because it's a #techsolutionist poster child.
(If y'all wanna get into the risk profile feel free, just, in advance, I'll probably stay out of it.)
In general it's gonna be a very #techsolutionist era for a long time, not least because #techsolutionism is a great way to hide grifts.
Also though when we do eventually have to face the fact that climate change is real & is fucking us, we'll be so far down its gullet that our only hope will be large-scale #geoengineering solutions. (FTR I despise geoengineering & think most large scale GE soltuiosn are more likely to kill us all than the climate change.)
